i once filled the cracks w/hot glue..then sanded the curling edges of dash(i cut the majority of this off with razor knife) and the glue smooth, then painted the whole dash w/ black wrinkle finish paint b/c of the grain of the dash, no one ever noticed it, some friends got in and said, ''you finally got a new dash!'' they didn't know what i had done until i told them what i did, they actually thought it was a new dash. and it was a fairly good looking 84 2wd c-10 made for laying frame, had a 6/5 lowering kit. w/billet in the cab, so if it looked well enuff to go with ''bling'', you know it had to look decent.
my door panel tops started to turn to powder and became smooth, from arm riding there, i sanded the grain looking parts and wrinkle finished them in black also, looked good, but can't say how long, as i sold it @3-4 months later to fund my next project.
i have 1 dash pad, that i had an upholstery shop cover it w/ leather...iirc it was less than a $100, and looked good and was leather! it got sold in a project also!
i now have a dash that upholstery shop wrapped w/ red vinyl to match interior of truck it was in, it came from a you-pull it...iirc $15, maybe $25..i'm planning on dyeing it black and putting it in my k5, you can tell from dirt and stains, that it is old, but its still soft and subtle!
talk to some upostery shops, they can usually cover these in your choice of material and color...i want 1 covered in a mid/heavy weight rubber :-) and make sure my wires are waterproof w/marine style radio case and wet okole seat covers, that way i can spray the entire inside w/ water hose when it gets muddy!
