How to keep a 5000 lb Monster from being stolen???

Hey I just left the keys in it for a week and it didnt move, I let a friend drive it and he left the keys in it, and I didnt realize and put the cover on /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

<font color=blue> A guy I work with leaves his keys in everything he ows ! His ATV ,snomobile, car, truck ....... EVERYTHING ! I kept telling him that someday it would bite him in the butt and lo and behold ! He got his car stolen last month ! Stupid !

Ignition and starter kill switch would be awesome. I'd use a relay if you're going to use the starter kill...hell, hook the switch to both so it won't have spark or crank over!

i'll tell ya what i'm doing, if i ever have to leave the suburban somewnere for a long time: fuel cut-off WELL hidden, ignition kill switch WELL hidden, gt grant removable steering wheel thingy, battery dicsonnects that's stuff you could buy. if you don't wanna spend a lot of money disconect the batt, fuel and reemove the tranny shift linkage. then even if they can get it started, they can't go anywhere.

My truck was originally a 2WD C10 with a Turbo 350, but now its a 4WD with 465/205. Its funny that theres still the automatic shifter on the column and the starter disable still works for the automatic shifter. So if I put it in Drive, you really can't tell it because I took off the shifter indicator. It won't start unless its in the Park or Neutral position. Second, I don't have the buttons on my outside door handles. You have to have long skinny fingers to get inside the door handle to push the button, and if your finger slips to the side while pressing the button, its over for your finger, kinda like a chinese finger trap thingy. Third, I can put the transfer case in neutral. With the combination of the three, I figure it would take a thief a while to figure it out. Hope this helps. I usually leave my keys in the ignition at home. I live in a small town of about 750 people, so I really don't worry. Plus my dogs will bark and probably annoy the thief to death, unless I get to him first.

i had anova that i had a gas cutoff switch. i wish i had photos of it. it was aunit which i hid under the car on the gas line which had an electircal feed to under the dash, then i would have an jack and put it in and out at my convenience. when the jack was out the gas line would shut, when in it was open. it worked perfectly and i didn't need anything else.

man Im almost in tears laughing at some of these posts.. I have a friend with a 78 blazer he has a 3 way switch hidden, one way is normal, one way is no start, one way is if the key is turned to start, it honks the horn..

the transfer case in neutral thing is a pretty good idea.

when my trucks on the road i want a sticker for it that says "nothing in this truck is worth more than your life" or something to that effect.

On my last rig, I would pull the wire to the fuel pump. That way they COULD steal it, get about 100 yards down the road and it would suck the carb dry then die in the road. That one was REAL easy to spot, (as if my current rig isnt /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif) It was over 7 ft tall and was lime green. I wanted them to get it out of my driveway, that way it WAS grand theft, not attempted theft. That rig was broken into (in my yard noless) but they didnt try to steal it.

On my current rig I pull the hot wire on the HEI so itll spin but not fire off. I will be setting up some switches to the coil and fuel pump whenever I get the time. Obviously pulling the wire off the HEI isnt something that can be done easily so I only do it at nite. Currently its "hidden" at my mom and dads house, but I do have it disabled also.

My biggest theft detering device is the truck itself. It looks like a pile of sh!t. If anyone was able to get it started they would drive it half way down the block and jump out running for their lives. The death wobble is ridiculous. It scared the hell out of me the first time it happened. And the brakes don't work so well either.
But, when I finally get around to taking out that dana 70 front and putting in the D60 and fixing the engine...

Kill switches on the starter, fuel pump and coil all with different orientation.

Brake lock and club

I used to, sometimes bring my cordless drill to remove my steering wheel when I went to a mall or something. It's only three small bolts and one big one holding it on, and my horn never worked anyway.

Hood locks.

My speaker box is boxed in and bolted to the floor so the speakers and amp are neither visible nor easily accessable. And I turn the radio down when I get close to where I am going.

At home I have a motion detector with a spot light. I also want to get one of those small motion detectors with a remote alarm to put the detector in the truck and the alarm in the house.

I'm also thinking about a LowJack.

I was thinking of just getting hood locks and disconnect the battery. Another trick idea would be a detachable shifter for those who have sticks and just leave em in nuetral. Or just make your truck as ugly as possible.

My trick is to have an ugly-ass piece of [censored] truck that no one would want to steal. Excessive body damage, rust, bondo, fluid leaks all help. My Blazer evidently is too much a POS to give away cause last time I had it towed I tried to give it to the tow truck driver and he wouldn't take it.

Do you have pics of that last rig steve???

I can't believe there are people out there that leave the keys in their cars. Small town or not... Get a key ring and put all your keys on it. Heck I feel naked without mine along w/ my wallet

put a toggle switch on my fuel pump gound...just the other day I was going through puddles real fast, and the water knocked the thing loose...It took me forever to think aobut that switch as the problem

Yes I do Mikey. All I have on the computer is some old Polaroids of it that I scanned. Somewhere I have some pics of it after the 2nd lift, and lime green, then I have a pic after I chopped the top off. I know I scanned them and did some cropping on the pics, but I have NO idea where they are. Ill drop the 2 I have on to webshots.

Capt, when you look at my truck you will see why. The roof is still a little trashed, and it is cast iron grey and a black front clip. It has a plexyglass windshield in it. I get looks, and people stopping to give me the right away.

I can't believe all of these posts, about locks for thism shut off's for that, clubs for here...

I wouldn't know what do to if i ever took the keys out of my beater. At my farm EVERYTHING has keys in it, my dad runs a tree farm and have many vehicles and machinery to look after, and if we took all the keys out, they would become lost for sure. Then again this is a farm 30 miles from no where, LA might be a different story.

Looks like you'll have to decide on a bunch of different gadgets, mods, or whatever. If your'e really worried just get good theft insurance or paint your rig with invisibility paint.
