I was given a 79 GMC truck this weekend. The truck has been sitting under a oak tree for 10 years and the gas tanks are 3/4 full still. Its weird but the gas still smells good, not that old gas smell that I know all to well.:doah:Anyway how do you get rid of 40 gallons of old gas?:dunno: Any bright ideas?

i got 40 gallons of diesel to get rid of to. when i got my suburban i topped off the tank and it crapped on me on the way home.

I have 4 yo gas in my burb, it still starts and runs....

run through your lawn mower?

Is there a way to test if it will work short of actually trying it? Maybe take all but a 1/4 tank out and top it off with new gas and give it a try? Id hate to put 3/4 of a tank of new gas @ $3.35 only to have it not work... Maybe some kind of high octaine gas additive. :doah: It is a small block, dont think you could hurt it!

I know what Beavis and Butthead would say...

FIRE, FIRE, huhh, huhh, FIRE, FIRE :weld:.

But really not a good idea :weapon9:.

Not really a helpful post but I am curious what some of the solutions are.

Many shops have pumps they can use to pull the fuel from the tank. I have seen it done for guys that put gas in their diesels, and for one woman that filled her Expedition up with 25 gallons of diesel. Takes an hour or so and usually isn't too expensive. An alternative option is to get an inline electric fuel pump and a length of line, feed it into the tank, and apply voltage, just avoid dumping it on the ground.

Your lawn mower will run just fine on it.

No Lawn Mower here... for that matter everything I have is a 2 stroke as far as lawn equipment. I think it would be worse on a small engine than a larger one. Besides how long would you have to run a lawn mower to burn 40 gallons of gas.:haha:  That would piss off the neighbors!

Getting it out of the tank isnt a problem... What do I do with it once its out is the question. :waytogo:

Unless my eyes are really going bad, those headlights look square and that means 1980 model year. You sure its a '79?

I didn't even notice that, because the grill is incorrect for 1980. The headlight doors are most definitely 1980, but they could have been put on a 79 at any point. The grill doesn't appear to be the correct 1980 chrome grill like Krusty has.

I say buy a 55 gallon drum and dump it in there. Use the before said fuel pump to pump it in there, then you could use it again to get it out whenever you needed it.

shops with waste oil heaters will mix it with there oil to burn. it works just fine. i have done it for years. 5-10 gal per 200-250 gal of oil.

as some oldtimers would say ( its thinnin the mix for a hot blend )

are those 16.5 rims ? and if so whats the width ? if you get rid of them drop me a pm . i might want them . . .

Why not use some good gas to prime the carb to get it running than just run it out by letting the truck run at a high idle it would take about 8 hours to run the tank dry. Old gas will burn once the motor warms up did this on a car that sat for 8 years.
