How to obtain a Chevy Military Truck ?

Don't know about the West coast but out on the east coast there are a bunch of bases closing and a ton of the M1008 being liquidated. There are a good 50 trucks on govliquidation within driving range to me...so I would assume the market is fairly flooded and one should be able to pick one of these up in my area at reasonable cost..especially with fuel at $5/gallon. I know a landscape guy who picked one up last winter at a state of Vermont auction for $600 with 16k original miles. I believe the fed gives these trucks to municipalities as there are a bunch of them running around here plowing the roads? They are out there but you have to know where to look.

I wouldn't mind having one, but I did drive the one the landscape guy bought...and you would definitely need some monster tires or an Overdrive for anything more than back roads. 60mph is definitely pushing it, these thing are geared steep and tach out fast with the diesel.

You need at least a true 36" tire to be able to safely do 60+ in the pickups. With the 4.56's and the stock 31-32" tires you're pretty well maxed out at 55mph. Bouncing off the rev limiter what?

I remember 2 years ago out here in NC the Marine Base, Camp Lejeune was getting rid of all thier old cucv blazers and pick-ups. I know a ton of guys that drove away with a running pick-up for 1800-2000bucks!!!Drove away with 1-tons, 6.2diesel, 4l80(or is it a 700r4?) It was a steal about 2 years ago and it lasted almost a year and a half. Alot of people just bought them and parted them out for WAY more than they bought them and a few built them up. The blazers were fetching alot more...usualy about 3500 or more.

This year i got back form anouther delpoyment all excited to pick one up and use it for parts on my 1st gen blazer. Only to find out the Base is pretty much done sellign them. And by viewing Govliquidators i see there are no where near as may for sale as there used to be.

TH400...the CUCV's all have TH400's.

In 1998 a friend of mine bought a M1009 Blazer with 3x,000 miles on it in MINT condition from DRMO on NAS Pensacola...for $500! No one else bid.

Don't for get the M1010 ambulances as well. I scored one for $800 bucks on govliq, I figured no one was watching the auction since I was the only bidder.

I was able to get a 91 crew cab 1 ton air force truck...the air force sells trucks at there DRMO on there base...the truck only has 85000 when i bought it..

Just saw this post maybe I'm resurrecting it but there is a place called Lovitts in wilmington NC that has a whole lot full of military Blazers and K30's for sale if anyone is interested they are usually around 3800-4000 and they literally have maybe 35 trucks. I work out of NY and live down there so if anyone on the east coast wants one I'd help ya out with the delivery/sale....or you can work it out on your own...I had asked this question a million times and then this dealership pops up and I was amazed!

Ive been seeing alot more of the m1009s ending up in the hands of dealerships thinking they are worth a fortune. Theres been one up for like 3500 on craigslist for months. I was able to find a m1008 for 350$ it was gutted of all the drive train though. Ive only seen one other one running around. They are getting rarer too seems that 80% of the people that buy them just gut them anyways.. Thats how i got mine :)

Thats where there is a difference of opinion. For some wanting a cheap Blazer to build... $3500 is a lot of money to spend when you will be basically changing everything on it.

But, to military collectors... $3500 for an unmolested, in good shape M1009 is a good find.

All depends on exactly what you are looking for and what you want to do with it.

1028's also got NP205's with a PTO as did the M1031 ambulances (although they are sorta a horse unto themselves).

Actually, the ambulance is an M1010. The M1028 had a 208, not a 205 . . . the M1028A1 had the 205. The M1031 was a cab chassis but is synonymous with the “Contact Maintenance” truck that has a 12kw generator and compressor.

I saw this as well, but I didn't want to rain on his parade. I like AJM.

Yeah, I foobed that up...almost 2 years ago.:wink1:

We'll since someone brought it to the top I figured people would be looking at it. I'd hate to see someone buy a truck thinking they were getting a 205 only to get one of those "oh crap" surprises. It's all good!;)

Can't believe I wrote that. Not paying attention for sure. Lord knows, that was a while ago.

I'm lookin at either buying a M1028A2 or the Contact Maintenance truck. Besides the fact that the Maintenance truck has the big service body on it, is there any other difference between the two? I know the M1028A2 has the dually Dana 70. But I'm not sure on the other differences. Thanks for your help.
