How to obtain a Chevy Military Truck ?

I'm lookin at either buying a M1028A2 or the Contact Maintenance truck. Besides the fact that the Maintenance truck has the big service body on it, is there any other difference between the two? I know the M1028A2 has the dually Dana 70. But I'm not sure on the other differences. Thanks for your help.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

The one with the service body is probably a M1031.
If so, their drivetrains are very similar, both M1028A2 and M1031 should have a limited slip in the front dana 60 and a np205 transfer case.

The M1008 on the other hand has a np208 TC and an open dana60 front axle.

But sometimes they mixed and matched what they had on hand,
so you can never be 100% sure what you've got without looking.

I wasn't aware they used dana70 for the drw-trucks, but I'm definately no expert.

I guess it's up to what rear axle and what bed you want.
Because that should be the only major difference.

Here's some more info:

Good luck!

hey thanks guys. good info. i'm gonna go look at these two later this week. i'll let y'all know how it turns out. by the way, let's just say the only diff between these 2 trucks is the rear axle. do y'all think i should go with the 14 bolt or try to get the D70 and convert it over to SRW? i like the thought of having that 70 out back but in SRW. I just don't know if the juice is worth the squeeze, so to speak.

If it's a dana70HD, I guess it's slightly stronger.
But the 14bolt will handle everything you throw at it.
And it's easier and cheaper to get parts for.

So I would go with the 14bff

that's what i was thinkin. i had a 14 in my burb. never gave me any problems but you know how it is...if it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

I believe the 1028A3 is the dually.

Yes, the duallies of this body style were all Dana 70 rears. After the switch to IFS the IFS duallies got a 14FF dually rear axle.

If you're wanting SRW just go with the SRW trucks to begin with. The 14FF is cheaper and easier to work with and the few places it gives up strength to a Dana 70 it makes up for it in other places.

I would LOVE to have a cucv dually! I would just about trade my m1009 and my 88 R30 for one

Oh, and I repeat myself, DO NOT BUY A CUCV FROM A PLACE IN WISCONSIN CALLED ALFA HEAVEN!

Do a search, I've said why a zillion times.

Eh, not your fault. I should have paid more attention to the truck and less to, "holy **** it looks so cooooooool!"

He's no longer sponsoring or posting over on SteelSoldiers. I think the fact that there was a group of us telling the truth about him so often finally scared him away.

frame differences

Hey guys,
I've been reading some of the threads about frame differences in 1/2 ton vs. 3/4 ton frames. But I don't see anything about the 1 tons. Anybody know the exact thickness measurements on the 1/2 ton frame and 1 ton frame? I'm about to install the weld on kit from ORD then the bolt on. Thanks for the help!
