I spent the day tearing apart my steering column to replace my turn signal multi switch. When I moved the smaller plastic cover with the tilt lever running through it a small black plastic piece covered in grease fell out. I'm sure it somehow connects with the metal rod that runs down the drivers side of the column to the high beam switch but I have no clue how to get it installed properly. Any ideas?

Good lord that would have made it easier! Thankfully with a new day and a clear mind I was able to get the piece back in properly with less trouble. I will save that link cause it is amazing, thanks for turning me on to it.

Sure thing, handy to have. I'm still too chicken to try and replace mine.

It's not that bad at all, my crappy Haynes repair manual didn't help a bit. Having never pulled a steering wheel or dug into a steering column before it seemed daunting. Once you commit its pretty easy, you can take care of it in an afternoon.
