I tore my steering box off and sprayed it with some oil eater and water, then pulled it apart to replace the seals and swap out the sector shaft. Apparently some water got in cause I'm pulling nasty white/brown foam out of the reservoir with my MightyVac. Problem is, I don't know how much fluid to swap out. The pump and reservoir are new, btw. I know a little foaming is okay and will go away after not too long, but does anyone know of a product to remove the moisture? I get customers in every now and then and the best I can do is flush their system until it looks better and then tell them to wait a week. Follow my own advise?

Eww.

With gas, you put the alcohol stuff in to bond to the water and it burns, sort of.

In hydraulic fluid, it's tougher. I'm thinking the fluid oughta get hot enough to boil the water out.

When bleeding the the system, I stick a piece of radiator hose on the neck of the reservoir. The hose's ID is conveniently the same as the OD of the neck, so it friction fits.

I then spin the steering wheel back and forth until it's bled. I'd do the same, in your case, getting the system nice and warm, maybe run it at the ends of travel (i.e. hard left and hard right) -- and look for steam coming out =))

Yeah, I think I got the bleeding thing down pat now. As far as the water, I was kinda thinking the same thing. I just wanted to get as much out as possible and figured the rest would burn out over a couple days. I'll try warming it up Friday when I finish my crossover and hold it hard left and right n' see what that does.

Thanks again.

can pull the return line and let it drain into a bucket while its running and having fluid dumped in so it doesnt run dry.
