How to tell a D44f from a D60f?

Look for the 60F CAST into the web on the lower drivers side facing the front of the vehicle.....If your looking for GM specific, it has the Kingpin caps on top and bottom like this:

bottom, with a grease zerk protector added:

And the top kingpin cap you can see with the crown and a grease zerk on top, on the far side of the axle:

The 60F will be cast in this circled spot on the lower web:

a little better pic of the kingpin cap:

this one has a crossover steering arm attached, on top of the kingpin cap, but you can get the idea:

if you cant find the 60f stamp by the cover and you are pretty sure it's a 60, look on top right above the pinion shaft for a 61 cast in the housing.
89-90 dodge trucks with 6bt cummins and 727 trans ran these. they have 3.07 gears and even with some serious effort can only be geared down to 4.10. and the 70 from the rear with 3.07 gears cannot be changed at all from the stock ratio.
thats a dana 61. rob it for parts, cut the c's off and junk the rest

I've seen it mentioned a few times now, the 60F is CAST into the housing, not stamped.
The Bill of Materials numbers are stamped into the driver side tube facing the front of the vehicle.
