How do i tell if i have a short or long shaft water pump?? I have a crate 350. Thanks

If it huggs the block like within 1 to 1.5 inches it's short...

correct..more like 3/4inch actually

On a short pump, the back cover of the water pump is almost touching the timing cover - within about 1/8". If you can put a finger in the gap it is a long pump. Any crate motor is going to come with a long pump.
