My 17 year old daughter and her friend where coming home from work last night in my K30. They were driving the speed limit of 45 MPH. A guy in a mid-90s Ford Taurus (or some equivalent Ford - hard to tell after the impact) ran into them from behind as they were just going down the road. He must have been going double their speed.

K30: slight bend to rear bumper (both reciever hitch and Pintle hitch on bumper)and rear window completely gone from their heads whipping back and hitting it.

Ford: totalled - front half-way to winshield.

Girls are OK, shaken and sore, but OK. The other guy? No insurance, but not harmed either (air bags?)

That is what scares the hell out of me about driving a small car (like I have been driving back and forth to work). A few years ago I had a 74 F250 Highboy. I was at a dead stop in the road and got hit by a guy w/ his cruise on 65 and never hit his brakes. He was in a 88 Chev Cavalier. His car was gone from windshield forward, but he was OK. I had my wife (pregnant) and my son (2 at time) w/ me, and dog in back. All OK, drove the truck 100 miles home, but it was totalled. If we would have been in a little car someone would have gotten hurt bad! Probably would have killed my dog.
Gotta love driving something w/ some metal around you!!!

Glad to hear everyone made it out of the accident OK. Make sure to get the frame checked on the K30

I'm glad to hear the girls are OK!

Get a lawyer, nail that dumb-as to the cross...why is it that the morons are the ones driving around with no insurance? The drunk moron that rear ended me in Portland also had no insurance (or drivers license, or registration /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif)

I'm glad to hear that everyone was ok. Like you said it could have been much worse. Also I second getting a lawyer to go after this guy.

Good to hear that everyone is ok. I know what you mean about being in a tough truck. I was in an accident a few years back in my K5. I slammed a guy in a Nissan Quest minivan as he made a left infront of me. I hit him going 30 or so. I totally demolished his minivan. It was leaking fluids all over. His van was completely totaled. It wouldn't roll when they tried to get it out of the intersection. The firefighter asked me if my truck would move and I told him hell yes. He took my keys, fired it up, piped it, and backed off the minivan. My truck was "totalled" by the insurance company, but I bought it back and ended up with $1800 more then I started with.

Everyone was ok in my accident to which was good, but the a**hole even tried to fight his ticket in court even though the wreck was clearly his fault. He showed up with arial photos to court, and the judge just laughed at him and told him he was guilty. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It was really cool though, the judge asked him how fast he thought he was going, and then he started quoting MPH to FPS conversions off the told of his head. That judge was awesome.

Glad to hear everyone was Ok. I got rearended last week by a neon. I was stopped, they were doin 50. It bent my frame a little bit and took out my hitch, but the neon was completely demolished. The person that hit me was lucky all they got was a broken wrist from the air bag.

Several of the firemen and policemen were making comments to my daughter and to me about what a good thing it is to be driving a big american truck. It still seemed to be noteworthy to them how little damage the K30 seemed to sustain. I'll crawl under tonight and assess the frame. (Good thing I have a couple of M1008s in the backyard /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif)

wow, yea my dads 98 4x4 nissan got rear ended when he was taking me to school a few years ago, well the ford torus was following to close, some dumb ass in a mercedies benz droped his cd's on the floor, and insted of being inteligent and waiting till he was stoped to get them, he just kept on going and looked on the floor for his CD's, bam, bam Benzz into the back of the tarus, and the tarus into the back of my dads truck, yea it was a bummer. the only part about my 87' K10 that is a bummer is the gas tank on the drivers side under me, other then that i think im good, i "tested" my rear bumper on a brick wall at my local autozone, took out my reverse light, oh well, bumper survived without a scratch\dent. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Glad to hear the girls are OK - have they been checked for whiplash or subluxation? Can be a problem years down the road if not handled properly early on (ask me how I know... no, don't - it's a typical day in my life type story -)

that sucks dude, id get a lawyer also if i were you, but i dont know how much you cang et out of him.
similar thing happeend to me, i was driving my hoe, i stoped cus dog ran in front of me, and a ford escort going 45 rear ended me, my hitch actually went though the block, oil and radiator fluid was everywhere, that car was totaled, me having a class 5 hitch and steel bumper was fine /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

17 ehh, hmm...j/k well I was hit almost head on by a f-250 totaled his bran new truck I banged out the fender with by reciever and ball and my truck pushed his out of the intersection and I drove home, then I ripped it apart and two years later still not done but not stock any more

Sorry to hear about the wreck, just glad the girls are ok. Sheesh, my son is just starting to learn to drive and I'm scared to death. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Right now I'm thinking of getting him a K30/M1008 and cutting it down to SWB. Good solid steel around him, easier to maneuver (less chance of problems), and room for only one passenger (buckets) so there is less chance of a bunch of noisy buddies cutting up and distracting him...

glad there ok...im 16 and i borrow my dads truck a lot..(79 3/4 ton) and i feel so much saffer in that thing then these newer cars!!

Glad everyone is OK.The newer cars and trucks are made to crinckle. The bodies of the viehicals obsorb as much of the impac as they can. With the "older" iron, you tend to bounce around the inside a lot more. By the way, to answer your question on how tough is a K-30? I got a hundred bucks, and a chain, that says mine will out-pull yours.

Same thing happened to my Dad in his K10 shortbox. The only damage to the truck was the bumper. The guy who rear-ended him totaled out his honda. Had the frame checked at a body shop and put a new bumper on it, and that was it. Hope your this lucky with your truck. Glad to hear that everyone was ok.

I've checked the frame and nothing seems bent - but the truck is pulling a little to the right, but when I apply the brakes it stops straight so I'm hoping a brake job will put it right. So what is this "my truck can out pull your truck thing" ? What kind of truck do you have and where do you live? Hint - put a little info in you profile:-)

Just joking around, I saw the "How tough is a K-30?" Usally bigger is better. I don't know what I wpuld want to get in a wreck in. Glad it turned out OK.
