How "trick" is your rig?

sometimes it's just fun to not mention stuff, then watch jaws drop as they watch it work. when i'm wheeling with jeep guys, I outdo them in almost every offroad situation, but my rig still sucks because i can't drive through a coin slot :haha:.

Hidden stuff is fun, though. i didn't have time/facilities to rebuild my old engine, but i negotiated with a shop to add a few upgrades below their normal price. I find you can haggle for just about anything in this world. i'm not outrunning vettes or anything, but i get more power and better mpg than any stocker i've driven, so i'm happy with it.

The way I look at is....Who are you building the truck for... You or them?
I don't really care what other people think.
Just build the truck you want and to the best of your abilities, go out and have fun with it.
I never did like people who make their trucks just to get others approval all the time

Building to impress others is a waist of time. I built mine to look stock right to the bumpers. Yes it sits on 35's and looks lifted, but the only problem I have had with a cop or a BLM guy, was they wanted to check it out. Build what works in your budget to do what you want.

Line 20 trucks up and you will see 20 different builds.

Ya know i've always liked the way show trucks loked even if they are ridicvulous. That is the way i was actually gonna build my Blazer...then i started coming here. It has opened up a whole new spectrum of build for me. I came with 4" lift and 33's and i'm gonna stay 4" lift with 39's or bigger. If i have to cut i have to. It's rusted pretty bad anyways.

So i'm going for functionality more than looks now and i have CK5 to thank for the eyeopening. That is all....:D

there's a lot of that "build it to impress everyone else" mentality with low-riders and ricers. although i'm not really sure why anyone would be impressed by a multi-tiered spoiler tall enough to upset the FAA :haha:.

last friday, i met some friends at one of our favorite bars. i came straight from work, but they "carpooled". one guy hurt his foot and is using a crutch. since jeeps are ridiculously tiny inside, they had to stick the crutch up between the rollbar and the vinyl top. and a few days earlier, I stuck a dining room table and 6 chairs in the back of my blazer. it's a jeep thing, and i don't understand at all. :p:

many people see lifted trucks with an ok paint job is sick because its big loud and has a lot of tire and everyone automatically thinks it can run over anything in its way.

I try to educate people, depending on my mood.. I have plenty of clueless people who give me the whole schpeal "why dont you just buy a new truck?". cuz I build cool stuff, yackass!!!!! not drive the same damn thing everyone else drives..

I don't bother with average folk, but those who show interest, are granted to Ryoken's "How to build a K5' diatribe to their hearts content... :haha:

My fellow mechanics know the crazy stuff I engineer and can appreciate it... F*ck, who's ever seen a glovebox like mine... :haha:

And you guys keep me motivated too...

Then you say "I will happily hook chains...Come on now, back your rig over here"

my roomate has a 1985 dodge 3/4 ton p/u with 38 pjs,410s,no lockers with a stock t-case...he says he is just waiting for my truck to be done so he can pull it around :rolleyes:he says that his extra weight will help him pull around my 4 to 1,and 513s locked 1 ton stuff....more inspiration to get my shiet done :doah:

I love your attitude! Thats the reason my truck is the way it is. I built it to do what I want to do with the terrain I have. When it didn't work I changed it and mixed it up. I'm not saying its right for everyone... Its evolving...

To date, mine is stock, except for the motor. I am building it to meet MY specs, no one elses. Lift, and bigger tires to follow. Then, that's it..........

Some of yall have missed my point entirely.......

I guess "trick" is some sort of slang for bling? Who the hell said anything about building to impress?

Ryokens build is a showcase of what I mean. He has ALOT of cool chit going on in his somewhat stock appearing ride.

Blah I guess this thread missed the mark.

i know what you mean...kinda like to goon that put in a manual tranny hump did a crappy job so to hide it im running new 5spd cover...not to many notice but i do...yeh i know what you mean and some completely have no idea in this thread

I guess i got mixed up with the rest. I knew what you meant in the beginning but got lost reading everyone else. I don't have ANYTHING trick on mine cause it's hard enough to just keep the damn thing running. Plus i just don't feel like fixing it anymore. I know when it's done this time i'm done with mud for awhile. Too hard on ****

My truck will be a little bit bling but, not for bling's sake. As for trick components that are hidden, there will be some of those too:
D60 with ARB, alloy shafts, 1410 yoke 4.56 gear
14BFF with Detroit, discs, 1410 yoke 4.56 gear
203/205 doubler clocked flat, triple-sticked, short 32 spline 465 output shaft, 1410 yoke, and HAD driveline brake

You sir, got my point! stuff like alloy shafts, air lockers, doublers, rear disks, are exactly what Im talking about. stuff you would never see across the parking lot.

Read my signature. None of this can be seen from across the parking lot. I have to gloat. The truck is the Jason Payne award winner at BB07. I look at the award every time I sit down at this computer. I am trying to come up with an equally trick rig for next year. Won't happen, but I can dream.

Your rig fits both this thread and my other thread about having less body damage. EXELENT!

the only thing "trick" bout mine is lifted 52's up front with reverse hi-steer and 4linked with coils in the rear, the rest is pretty much the same as everyone elses 1ton, even 52's are gettin to be a norm around here.

build it for yourself, and allow yourself to change your build, nothing set in stone. i had huge plans for mine, and now im selling most of those trick parts for financial reasons damn college haha but i gatta prioritize, but one day i'll have it all, when the timing is right, and we'll see how much that college education pays off hopefully haha:)

I wanna put a sticker on my rig that says "Will hook chains with anyone, anytime, anywhere..." But in reality, its those moments when you crawl over/through something that other people are having trouble with or you pull someones rig unstuck with ease that make it all worth it.

 Thats awesome

Mines should be pretty nice if its ever done. Mostly itll be a daily driver. But I want it built to take abuse. This last weekend I had my S10 Blazer reaking of burnt tranny fluid and it just doesnt have enough power or ground clearance for alot of the stuff I would like to try:D

I figure, 3/4 tons with 4.88s and welder rear, 406 SBC, 35/12.5s, with 52s and rear flip should be enough to get the job done
