How wide are your wheels?

I found some wheels on CL but they are 12" wide. Seems a bit much for my intended purpose. I have some 36 " military tires for a 16.5 rim that I want to mount on my K5. Is 12" too much wheel? If not what would be a guess at a usable off set.

me personally don't think 12" is to wide at all. thats considering i am running 40x17.50 i think alot of it is the persons choice as to what size tire they want to run. i am sure you will find alot of ppl run diffrent set ups under their trucks and you will also find some are trail rigs, daily drivers and some are a little of both. so alot of it depends on what you want to do.

you might look on the tire & see what it calls for. you might could fit them but they will probably baloon out a bunch.

It's also gonna be easier to pop the bead in the first place with 12" wide wheels and 12.50 tires. I'm running 36x13.50 on 17x9 wheels, and I haven't had a bead pop yet.

I wouldn't run a 12" wheel unless I was running a 14" or wider tire. When I got my 86 blazer it had 35x12.5 on 10" wheels. They looked about right, but I definitely wouldn't go with a wider wheel. Tires balloon out in the middle and that's where the width measurement is. So a 12.5" wide tire may only have a tread width of 10.5" I'd try to keep the wheel width no wider than the tread width.

Good point I wasnt really thinking about the width of the tire when I asked that question :doah:

I havent had a 4wd in a long time and when I did everything went on a 10" rim. Times have changed :D

"Kaos, when I had 10" wheels on my 35" BFG they looked good but now I have 8" wide wheels and it looks real good too, probably better. Also, the tire is a full 1 1/4" taller than before. Any little gain in ground clearence is good with my 35" tires and a 14bff.
