With 15" wheels, how wide would you run for 44" tires?

I would guess 12", 14" or 16" depending on the usage.

I'm running 15x14 rockcrawlers with my 44-18.50-15 TSL's. They stay beaded down to 4-5psi when I was @ BlazerBash although I liked them better @ 8psi. The only thing I see as a possible issue is the valve stem location sucks.

I was thinking 14 and 16 would fit and look better on the 19.5" wide Boggers.

Bumping this one back to top for some more votes...

With offroad meats I find 3-4in smaller than tire width is ideal for protection and not being too ballooned.

I ran 15x10s with my 36x12.5 swampers and really felt they should have been on 8 wides.

Now I run 16x7s with a 11.5 wide tire and its perfect.

I run 15x10's with my 44" monster mudders. Although even though they say 44x18.5 they don't completely measure out to that. I like the way they look and ride though, since I'm not a big fan of a ballooned out tire.

Had some 39.5 TSLs on 14" rims and that was too much but when I stepped up to the 44" Hawgs the 14"s were just right. I'm not sure I'd want 16s on the steer axle.

I always say the rim should be as wide as the tread width, but I don't have rocks to crawl by me, it is all mud. For rocks I would go narrower.

For as good as a 44 Bogger might look on a 14" or 16" wheel, I'd stay with a 12". I'd be worried about having a rim that's too wide for anything other than a 44"+ tire. If for some reason you decided or needed to go smaller you'd end up with a wheel design you really like but is simply unusable.

For an offroad rig I wouldn't go more than 10" on these tires, especially if you air down. Myself and a buddy of mine run 8" wide rims on 15.5" tires and they work great all-around. But even with that the lip of the rim still has all of the paint scraped off of it because the tire flexes enough to push the rim against rocks and ruts, and still have to periodically clean dirt out of the bead.

this.

i'd say 8-10" if you're on trails or near rocks. 10-12" if you're strictly mud. i ride w/ friends that run 44s on humvee wheels so that's an 8" wheel.
