So I just tore apart my passengerside hub to replace the wheelstuds. I put it all back together with no problems. I have auto hubs that I have never once had a problem with them before. Only now that its all back together, when i engange 4wd that hub just clicks. Does anyone have a diagram of how it goes together, or did i just screw it up?

I would very much prefer to not have to buy new hubs, and if possible keep my autos because they have been good to me its so much easier when i don't have to get out of my truck...

they pretty much slip in the splines and are held in with the large clip and thats pretty much it right? did you install that spring under the cap? other than that i have no idea...

ya that spring was such a bitch to install...

can you even buy new autohubs? yeah those things should come out in practically one piece dont think you could have messed them up

No they don't sell new auto hubs. I'm going to take it back apart this weekend and find out if everything is put together correctly.

Make sure everything is clean, and that they aren't OVER greased. I can't recall how those things go together, but they are finicky, too much or too little lube will cause problems.

Hate to be the voice of dissent, but auto hubs suck. Mine did the same thing to me, once they fail and you need them, you will no longer care about having to get out of the truck. :)

ya it might be too much grease. I slobbered it all over...

Still haveing the same problem... I took it all back apart nothing that i can see is wrong. I even popped the cover off of the driver side hub to see how that was setup, and they are the exact same!!:angry1::angry1::angry1: Why the **** isn't it working!?!?!?!?

Please I am desperate to get my hubs working again!

The only thing I can think of is to try and work them through a few cycles of engaging and disengaging. If doing it on the vehicle doesn't work, you could try turning it by hand.

If you can't get it to work and you have to drive the truck, you can go short-term with no hub. Just tape some plastic over the opening to keep the bearings clean.

i tried running it through a few cycles of locking and unlocking. and even popping it into 4hi while going 30. just clicked faster. Also tried it by hand and nothing.

the truck drives fine, the passengerside hub just wont engage when i throw it into 4wd

but as its looking now I guess i'm going to have to buy new hubs because i want to go wheelin so bad right now.

You've swapped hubs side to side? Only thing I'd try doing to ensure the problem follows the parts.

Besides, if there is an install issue you've missed, taking it apart again should result in you finding it.

thats a good idea  I will try that...

Did you check the hub? are the splines good? i had auto hubs and had the same problem, the gear and spring were fine and in good shape but the hub was shot.

I know this was already said, but make sure there isnt much grease in there. They require very very little. I had hubs fail on me. Took them apart, cleaned the crap out of them, and packed them with a nice large amount of grease. Took it out for a test drive, and notta! The third time I pulled them apart, I was told to get rid of the grease. They worked fine after that... Well, for about two months. Then one just plain broke and convinced me to go with the manuals...

PM me if interested in a set of working auto hubs. I swapped to manuals before the autos went bad.

I think I'm just going to say **** it and install manuals. that way I will feel better about putting in a front locker later on.

I'm tired of playin around with these things. Summit has some kick ass hubs for $60 something that I just ordered. They'll be here by the weekend and I'll be wheelin by monday. :saweet:

Oh and thanks for the diagram. My hubs are set up exactly like that... so it makes no sence at all to me that they suddenly don't work. Thats why this whole thing is so fustrating.
