Hub Socket

I'm just curious how many of you out there use one of those big hub sockets on the spindle nuts inside the hub and who uses the hammer and screwdriver method. I've never used the socket before and have never had a problem. Any horror stories out there that stem from using the farmer method?

Socket, I own two, one for work, one for home. I just bought one for my 14bff too.

How would a hammer and punch work on a fron hub? That nut is a ways in there.

I bought the socket , after years of being slightly stupid , I now try have what I need beforehand so I have the least trouble possible

I remember seeing that NAPA carries these sockets. Does anyone have the part numbers for the D60 and 14FF ones? Thanks.

The proper socket is only $20 at checker. Get the right tool.

Never even considered using anything but the socket. Tough to get the torq right with a hammer.

I use the socket. You can also put the nuts from a 60 on a 14FF the spindles are the same size. I had the od of my socket turned down at work so I only have to have one socket to do both front and rear.

That should be left to emergencies. I like to have my wheel bearings properly torqued, the thought of losing a wheel on the freeway is pretty scary.

Diggin' up old threads and still can't find the answer. Does anyone know the part numbers or will the parts guy be able to pull these sockets by what axle they work on? Maybe a size of socket would be handy?

Then you're all set for the 4-pin Dana 44 and GM 10-bolt, as well as most 14 bolt rears.

They show 2 sockets in the photo, but I'm fairly certain that it's actually a single socket. At least that's how the one I bought off of a Mac tools truck is made.

i have went both ends of the spectrum, i machined my own socket for my 14ff which worked great, but its not heat treated so i dont know how long it will last, and i also bought a snapon socket so i had a "good" one. the one i made works the same as the snapon does.

i bought the socket.i got my moneys worth out of it.used it on my '79furd,76,74,85k-5s,82k-10 and this weekend on my 80dog ram.
