What are folks with leaky H1's doing to fix them? I have new o-rings and I'm tired of breaking them down. Fix-a-flat stuff work??

A little grease on the o-rings is all I used.
My spare leaked though, and I have never dealt with it. It just sits, flat, in my garage.

I had on that would always go flat, so I put a little silicone in the o ring grove then put the ring on top. Havent had a problem sense.

A silicone grease or silicone sealant?

Are you using the correct O-rings? The old type are black and the newer ones are red. Supposedly the black ones will work in all and the red are for the new or latest rim.

There are currently 3 generations of rims. The first are 8 bolt. Then there is a 12 bolt rim. The newest rim has 12 bolts and a higher weight rating. That's the one which got a new red O-ring. Look at the rim face and the circle of 12 bolts, or bolt holes. There is a 13th hole that is slightly smaller and offset from the others. You can also look for the weight rating which is stamped on the face of the rim. IIRC, the old rims are rated for 3700 and the new ones are 4200.

Silicone sounds like a good solution though:D

I used new black o-rings (from usa6x6) on 8 bolt wheels. I lubed them with wd40 during assembly but nothing else. Silicone sealer sounds like the solution I just didn't want to break them down again. :doah:

My uncle said it's not uncommon for them to use gasket maker (the orange stuff) to seal up rims that constantly leak...

He's been a army mechanic for 24 years...

One of my H1's actually had the o'ring coated in the stuff, and had to be wire brushed out to re-seal.

How quickly are you guys losing air in your wheels? Mine go flat very slowly - usually takes a couple months to lose noticable pressure..... 6 months+ until they look flat.

I'm not going to pull my wheels apart to slow a leak thats as slow as mine is, but it's good to know that there's options available if they ever speed up.

Two are holding ok but two are going from 22 psi to not registering (< 10 psi) in about 2 hrs.

I've run them down with an impact until the outer shell is evenly touching the inner shell. I haven't actually put a tq wrench on them.

I hope you dont mind a little hijack, What are you guys with weld-on beadlocks doing to fix leaks? I have one that leaks slowly. I aired it up to 30 psi and it hasnt gone down but when the temperature was low it went flat and I would put like 20 psi and it would go flat over a week's time.

I don't want to air down for the trail and have my tire go flat by the end of the day :(

I think that might be your problem. WD40 and some other petroleum based things can cause issue with the rubber breaking down. It depends on the chemical and the rubber compostition but it has happened in the past. I would recommend replacing the orings and lubing them with silicon grease or tourmaline. Those are the 2 we use in the Navy for lubing Buna-N orings.

... could be "coning" and not compressing the oring.

Tha't s a possibility, I was told the beads on my tires were too thick to use the mags without cutting down the width. Since they are almost sealing I'll probably try the silicone trick and see if that works.

Readymix has 39" Bias Iroks and did not cut the width down but I am not sure if the 42 Irok or 47 LTB have thicker sidewalls than the smaller diameter tire. His only leaker as stated above is his spare.

There was 1 guy on Pirate that said the LTB bead was too thick making it ncessary to cut the mag piece. Since it was just one guy I was hoping he was wrong.
