Has anyone ever used the newer 83-91 HVAC controls in an older truck?

Here is the deal, my Blazer's vacuum switch is shot, and I can't get full defrost which is a bit critical with the low temps, and it leaks a bit of vacuum. The problem is that I haven't been able to locate anyone that carries the vacuum selector switch for the older style setups. So, I want to use the newer setup since I can still get all the parts for it, and it will solve the vacuum leak problem I currently have. I have tried fixing the connector, but it is tight, the leak comes from the selector itself.

LMC and Classic Parts both carry complete control setups for the later model Blazers and such, but I don't know if there is any way to use them. I really don't want to spend the money if there is no way to make the vacuum actuators kick the way they are supposed to.

So, anyone tried it, and did you have any issues that I am not forseeing?

Only issue I can see is if the vacuum "connector" is different early to late, and/or the mechanical cables are different.

I'm no expert on the AC side of things, hopefully someone can definitively tell you, but if not, I'd pull the one in your truck apart, if it's not already, and if you have any, hit a wrecking yard up and compare to the later, which should be readily available.
