Hydraulic clutch (slave cylinder) question (2001 Chevy Silverado 2500)

Clutch pedal went to the floor last night. Under further inspection the hydraulic line has been laying on the exhaust. As such it developed a pinhole leak. After fighting with it and not being able to see where it goes into the bellhousing I opted to bring it into a shop. The shop has indicated this is a 4 to 5 hour job as they have to move back the transmission to get to the line. Is this accurate? Included is a picture of the line.

Is this an NV4500? To change an internal slave cylinder, yes, the tranny is removed to get the slave off the input shaft. Can that failed line be unthreaded from the slave cylinder, or is it pressed in?

It looks like the style of slave that uses a roll pin to restrain that line. There are 3 or 4 styles of slave cylinder that interchange, so you could put in a threaded line if you wanted to eliminate this from happening again. Though I doubt it would happen twice.
 
I'd be looking for a way to splice the hose back together after chopping out the burnt part that is leaking--beats having to pull the transmission..perhaps some re-useable hydraulic hose fittings would work,with NPT pipe threads,male & female,and screw them together..
