Hydro Assist Issues

Guys running hydro assist, do you have issues with your steering box throw being way more than your ram will allow? I am running a complete PSC kit on my truck, and my box turns much further without the ram on it. I recently cracked an ear off the box, and wondering if this has something to do with it. Thanks.

The PSC cylinder should be 8” total travel, which should be more than the travel

Where do you have the cylinder mounted?

If you unhook the box, will the cylinder push to the stops on the knuckle?

I bet it would have something to do with it.

You get a lot of mechanical advantage with the gear box add hydraulic power, then stop the pitman before end of travel and something has to give.

I've been researching hydro assist for my truck as well. Is that why ORD makes this extra long throw at 8 & 3/4" to get all the way lock to lock?

Air is bled and plenty of fluid.

It's the one that came in the PSC kit.... I think. I'll have to look back.

I can't remember, but do you know if the one on the old '72 was 5.5"? Seems like it had slightly more travel from the ram than the box. Now it has a pitman arm fro ORD, 6"(?). It seems to be more closely matched.

Yes, that arm I machined, came off of a Cherokee

Coincidentally, also performed 4 frame repairs around the box on that truck. Likely compounded by the ram trying for the extra travel

I don't have a high steer arm, just standard X-over. I'll measure in a bit.
