Hydro assist ram question

Can you mount it with the valves pointing backwards and use 90 degree ends on your hose ends. Please don't hose me too hard...just a question.

There isn't enough clearance between the tie rod and axle tube to do that.

Even it there was. Hitting anything with the tierod would probably allow enough flex for contact.

Fair enough...how much metal is there between the end and the fluid? Can you zip wheel it off without puncturing the inner reovoir, or do you cut the end of and weld a air tight bead? If an air tight bead what type of pressuer is there?

The "ends" aren't just welded onto the ends. They fit inside the tube too (for alignment). All you have to do is grind the welds out until you can spin the "ends". You don't need to remove the end, just turn it. Keep the piston seal away from the welding heat and you will have no problems.

Here, I drawed you a picture:

I am having an issue with the ram. The fixed mount on the cylinder is rotated wrong. I need it flipped horizontal so the ports point up not at the axle tube or tie rod. Not sure if I could just carefully cut it of and re weld it or not.
I believe it was KidJethro who did a nice and fancy hydro write up, where he threw his on a lathe and turned out the old weld, rotated it, and rewelded. There were a lot of detailed pics IIRC.

I really don't think that is how this one is. I looked at it last night and it looks to be welded to plate on the end of the cylinder.

mine is mounted this way. it just fits. but there is no room for one on the other end of the axle.
