How about a quick disconnect for the end on the ram at the tie rod. And a way to hold the ram out of the way. Let it move in and out as you drive.
 
I thought about that too but decided to get used to the assist. It's an option but now you have no dampener for the steering. Some rigs need one and some don't.
 
Possibly more castor and definitely room to get used to it. You typically only need to move the steering wheel when you want the tires to move. We (everyone) get used to moving the wheel a lot driving other stuff. I feel like the assisted trucks are more like a car, when you move the wheel stuff happens. But I drive something with assist pretty often and they're all a little different too. It's not a giant learning curve.
 
Yeah I have that issue when I go from my sloppy steering older stuff to my wife's rack and pinion nice vehicle. I end up twitching all over the road with hers cuz it's so sensitive.
