I am entering the Mud Bogg and maybe Tuff Truck(No Tuff Truck)

Don't you think I could get more wheel spin in 4HI than 4LOW? In 4LOW, with the 5.13s, I can't get over 6-7mph in 1st gear. I think I'm going to have to use 4HI and not let it get out of 2nd gear. I am going to try finding a siping tool to get some more depth out of the lugs, don't know if I can find the time to do it though. It will take forever.

personally i wouldnt be waiting to find out... if you have 600 miiles on your rebuild... you may want to go out and play... find different areas to test...
back in the day when i had 33's, open axles, 350, turbo 400.. i always used high... never had a problem.....

so you should go out and give her hell somewhere and test it out... try high, low, different gears like 1st, second......

the only true way to tell is your truck tested and proven....

you can take hp numbers, gear ratios and theories.. but to apply them with the driver you need to go find out.... :dunno:

thats all im saying... plus more time to play

Huh? LO5s were rated like 240hp and 300ftlbs stock. With flattops, and a good exhaust your should be somewhere around 275hp and 330ftlbs.

im gonna just state on my L05 block... so not sure how much different than his

out of a 1991 caprice 9c1 police car...
hydraulic roller cam - 195hp/295lb-ft torque

i can be a video whore and show you lots of mud racing.

i run a built 383, aluminum heads, about 11:1 compression, with 4.56 gears, locked front and rear, th400, 203, 4000 stall. i run 4 low ALL THE TIME. the last race of the year i tried 4 high just to ease our thoughts, my head mechanic (my BIL), besides myself wwondered what it would do. it was in the 33" and down tire class. i run 2 next to new boggers on the rear and 2 bald ones on the front, not by choice, it's what i got. in high range i had to stay in 1st gear and it was sluggish. the next run, 4 trucks later, same tires and class i ran low range and can up shift to 2nd. now, our pit is not deep at the start of the day, but it still made a difference, i ran a faster time using low and being able to shift to 2nd.

I have a 350 .040 with 12:1, 465/205, 456s and 396. Mines around 425 hp, if the muds real deep and thick i have to use 4lo, i tried 4 hi and its way too much for it. If the mudds like a mud puddle lol then for sure 4hi. Usually keep it churning and keep the wheelspeed constant, im not saying rev it to the moon but keep working it.

Come on guys its not really mud racing till the valves are out on the hood doing a little dance for ya

Hmmm, Bakerspatch ain't too far. I'm thinking about coming up to watch if I'm not still desperately trying to get by burb ready for our Old Mojave Rd trip.:D

I'm still in Palmdale, and the house I was trying for in Tehachapi fell through yesterday.:doah: I'll send you a PM.

Sweet. Its at the Kern County Fair Grounds. November 4th. 5:00pm.

That sucks the deal fell through. Hope you find another house up there! I will send you a pm when I get to work this morning.

Your job will consist of handing me cold beer!! Tom, wanna drive it in the mud bogg? I owe for all the help. So why don't you drive it. I would like to see it from the outside. You can if you want.

We'll see about driving it. It will have two or three layers of mud before I do though, I don't want to be the party crasher to end the day early.

I'm sure there is only one run per rig. I will let you take it through, if you promise to never lift off the skinny pedal!

I've been talking to the owners of G&G off road. They are thinking about being my sponsor. They want to put a huge G&G Off Road sticker each back side window and the anouncer will say their name in the intro. They will pay for all damages!
