spent all day TRYING to change the tranny fluid and filter on my '99 Z71...

fockers put a bracket that has to come off to get the pan off. the bracket has 2 bolts that are accesable from the top. No problem, UNLESS YOUR LARGER THAN A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL!!!

I'm taking to the shop, gonna let them deal with it.

Oh yeah, the damn cross pipe for the exhaust is perfectly in the way of the rear pan bolts. One single inch either way would have been fine, but nooooo, smart a$$ fockers centered it perfectly under the bolts.

I don't care if I hit the lotto next week, I will never, EVER buy a new GM product as long as I live....

G-d shift levers were fine for what, 60 or 70 years? Now they have a shift cable a grown man can't get off....fockers.......

o.k., I'm done now....:doah:

I was looking at it today. It just looks weak to me...the A arms are wimpy...it's my daily driver, so I haven't dogged it at all. It wouldn't take the abuse..

as soon as my 'burb is back up, I'm selling it. Gonna find me another square body pick up....:waytogo:

Forgot @ that damn shift brake interface thing. Another useless advance...

I agree with everything going on in this thread. :) I'm on the hunt for a Dodge right now, sorry GM you lost me.

I think the guys who designed that tranny crossmember thing also designed C130 chine plates up in the cockpit, err I mean flight deck. ****ing impossible to get to, unless you have 12 year old girl hands, that are 4 feet long. Muther****ers!

I wonder how bad a ford is now.

you have to take the cab off to change the injectors
Oh yeah, I've heard about that.:sign27:
I've removed a transmission in 70's ford pick-up and it was pain.
I didn't think ford would have improved 30 years later.

i talked to a tech, and he said it was really easy to get the cab off.
IF you have a two post lift!!! lol
radiator hoses, some plugs, cab bolts and a few misc. said it could be up and off in ten minutes.

Back to the later model GM stuff.
Have anyone replaced the Crank position sensor on a 8.1. It is behind the block and gm run the fuel lines damn near over the sensor.
I had to take a cheap wrench and heat it up to put a dog leg in it so I can remove the one bolt which holds the sensor.
And that was the easy part.

X2 :haha:

Although we have an '02 Durango that has it's own engineering idiocy so I'm not off the hook completely.

Now this isn't a truck but I have worked on my grand prix a couple times, its a 2001 and its not bad at all. Maybe I am just getting used to stupid stuff on newer cars

wow, its just a couple of bolts. All cars a little different. END OF STORY.

couple bolts here, couple bolts there........carpal tunnel syndrome here, shoulder surgery there.....yup, i feel like a dinosaur :D

shiiiit, electronic ignition? i run a magneto on my bike....
didn't they have some 360 Durangos Rene?

Yeah, the R/T got the 5.9 magnum (360)

Ours is just a SLT (slut?) model with the 4.7 though. I have to do CV's soon *shudders*

As for stupid engineering...we had an '02 Montana min van for a few years. Managed to get GM to fix the intake gaskets at no cost so I was happy about that. Ever looked at swapping spark plugs on one of those V6's though? I really think the easiest is to cut an access panel from the interior to get the back ones. Whatever happened to the good old days when Van's got doghouses?

I was thinking about when I changed the tranny filter in '86 sub.

I could drop the crossmember (2wd) and change it in a couple of hours without air tools.

I just hate spending so much time on something and not getting anything accomplished. Not to mention getting all greasy and having to take a shower on saturday AND sunday!

63chevyII, I've been wrenching a lonnnnnnggggggg time. I just don't bend and fit in places like I use too.....doh! :D:dunno::doah:
