What do ya think? This is just the bottom part, i still need to build the tire carrier part to hold the tire and 2 jerry cans.

those recovery points look a tad thin.

If it were mine, I'd lower the bumper so it was level with the hitch frame & and stack another tube on top.

single tube looks kinda scrawny on a 'burb!

dig the basic style though

I didn't want to add to much weight on the lower part as i'm still going to pile on a 37'' tire and 2 full jerry cans.As far as the recovery points are concerned, my tought was they are much thicker than the frame they are attached too.

Should i make them thicker, and why?

I really don't have a good answer, I was just comparing them to most I've seen.

Most others I have seen are wide enough to not have any slack in the shackle.

Any pro builders wanna chime in? Give us some schoolin!

I think the basic design looks good. :wink1: I like the way it doesnt cover the hitch. The bumper is nice a high and wont get hung up on anything. As far as recovery points i would say go overkill on those, just added piece of mind when you need them. Ya know!!
Good job bud, cant wait to see the finished product.

Looks good! Cap the ends, for sure. Besides that, i like it.

On the recovery points, yes the frame is thinner, but you are almost never in a straight pull situation. The issue isn't pulling the hook out of the steel, its bending it. Bend it a couple times, and it will break off. I'd add some stock on either side of the recovery points, weld it all up, and call it good. Oh, and get some grip tape like material for the top, so you don't slip off when you stand on it.

I like that wide top section, i hate the 80's style "non-step" type bumpers compared to teh 90's style.

I actually like the simple high clearence, wide step platform bumper design, nice job. I would taper the ends before caping them, narrow the ends by about 2" inches X 6" or something like that. Give it some shape ya know. Yeah, what has already been said. OverKill on shackle points. I like it so much I might even do a similar design.

I'm going to use 10 bolt spindles/hubs for my hinge on the tire carrier so i wanted to leave the ends un-finished till then. After that the ends will get finished off and a flapper wheel taken to all the sharp points.

Thanks for the comments!

Thicken up the tug points. It's cheap insurance, Burbs are very heavy. Otherwise i really like it.
