ok guys i feel really dumb.

im wanting to replace a holley 650 with a M4ME rochester. i am pretty sure thats the one i got.

numbers read:
17056512
2805 ABJ

there sure is alot of open ports on this thing.
does anyone have a photo of where the vacuum advance goes and pcv etc etc

which ones need to be plugged and what not.

im mainly concerned about the big screw in port in the back, im pretty sure thats my brake booster but ive already got that coming from the intake. will that piece be avail at a parts house?

the big lower port on the front im assuming is pcv but whats the top?

my red choke wire im assuming goes on the big tab of which i dont have the plug for, then where does the black one go?

anyways, does anyone have a quick pic of theyre old qjet on an 85?

its greatly apreciated!

the big one on the back is brake booster. stick a pipe plug in it if you are already hooked to your mainfold. the big lower front one is PCV. the little one over the a/f mixture screw on the driver side is port vacuum for distributor advance. Plug the rest off. they were for various emmisions BS. I think that upper large port went to the charcoal cannister, but I'm not sure... Stick to the three and plug off the rest.:wink1:

The red wire goes to choke, the black wire was prolly a ground for the Holley choke. you can prolly leave it unhooked. did you get an adapter plate to go from square port intake to spreadbore carb? Or did you already have one adapting the square port Holley to a spreadbore? Just thinkin of stuff.

This is my 83 with the ported switches removed , passed AZ smog easily .

2. to the vacuum on charcoal can , there is also a full time reference vacuum for charcoal can that comes off a dual hose PCV valve .
3. fuel in
4. spark
5. egr
6. capped , went to factory air cleaner
7. PCV valve hose

not marked is the vapor can hose for the fuel vapors , its above 4

not shown is the brake vacuum , its the rear lower large one like they told you above .

allright thanks for that verification. i had the distributor hose mixed up.
so i got it runnin good at warm idle and mixture seems good, no black smoke.
its got really nice throttle response up until i mash it down. then it falls on its face and nearly dies and grumbles about it.

i want the secondaries to open up and get on it and make that whoooooooooOOOOOOP sound. its not doin that. im scratchin my head here fellas.

so which if any should i use for the th400? ive got it going to the tee in the back of the intake, is that one good enough?

If the truck is falling on its face at WOT the secondaries are probably coming in too much and too early.

Q-jets use vacuum secondaries and the upper butterfly valve is spring loaded and adjustable. You need to tighten this spring, IIRC you put a small flathead screwdriver into the adjusting screw (its on the passenger side on mine IIRC) and loosen a small allen head bolt that locks the adjustment in place. You want to make very small adjustments here, 1/16 of a turn at a time or so. Then tighten the allen head bolt again and check the results.

Not to bring a dead thread up but this is one of few post that had a clear guide to hooking up the vacuum lines. I just used this as a guide to correct mine and im hoping this solves a lot of my little issues.
I did just plug the coal canister port because the PO cracked the nipples of the coal canister.
