I could be picking up a M1008 this week for a 1-ton conversion. Questions inside.

I found what looks to be a m1008 with the 6.2 diesel, 14-bolt and d60. My plans are to get the parts out of it and scrap the rest. I'm planning on swapping the axles into my blazer at some point. I'll keep the transfer case, tranny, engine and some body parts. I'm looking forward to the 4.56 gears (running 3.08's with 35" right now).

What should I look out for before purchasing? Can you all give me some tips to make sure I'm getting a decent parts truck?

every m1008 i've ever seen(about 20 of them) all had a detroit out back, and about 10percent of them had a limited slip in the front. make sure you save all the little BS like the ubolt plates/etc. that $hit will nickle and dime you to death when it comes time for the swap. oh yeah, i would keep the driveshafts/trans and x-case crossmembers, steering box etc..... that stuff could wind up bein handy down the road.

According to the seller it does have a detroit in the rear.

Ok one other question that I've been thinking about. How do I get rid of the shell once I'm done taking all the stuff I want out of it? Considering it won't have any axles, I wonder if a tow truck could come and drag it out of my garage,

Cut the axles and such out of it on a trailer, when you run it across the scales just have them lift the body/frame clear of the axles and head home

I take it you don't have room just to leave it sit for parts?

Is the body in good shape. Might be worth some money. I drove 800 miles one way to get a 1008 that someone guted. Up here nice trucks judt don't exsist.

A wrecker with a bed that tilts to the ground should be able to drag it up on the bed when your ready as long as you have a title.
