I finally found and bought a truck. I got a 1971 GMC Jimmy 4x4, 454, automatic. the paint isnt excellent but it will do for a while. the interior is extremely nice...too bad its all gunna come out. I bought the truck at an auction so now i am waiting for it to be shipped. i should have it thursday..along with all my other toys i bought :D

now that i have this beast, first things first.

I am thinking 8" Superlift suspension lift and the biggest tires i can fit under it! 40x17s on a 15" wheel should look nice :wink1: but i am wondering if those maybe too wide? what do you guys think?

Unless you add an enormous lift, you won't be able to fit 40's without cutting off lots of fender. I'd take some time to make some long term plans for it and just drive it as-is for a while until you're sure what you want to do with it.

haha the dakota scared you? its actually the most tame out of the three. the Apache sounds like its gunna rattle apart haha the Jimmy is a beast plain and simple. I never thought a truck could be fast until i drove that thing. the dodge is a run of the mill truck. it has a body lift and some bigger tires but other than that shes pretty tame.

yeah i ws basing it off 4wheelparts.com tire fitment guide. i read it wrong they suggest 38" tires with a 8" lift. the only thing is they dont say how wide the tire can be. i am looking to go as big and as wide as i can. long term plans are in the works. i just got a little excited haha :wink1: the real first thing i have to do is get the transfer case in line. i think the gear selector is disconnected. i am also going to put a roll bar in it because it basically has nothing for protection in a roll over. the Apache is first then the Jimmy. god i love getting new projects!!! no easier way to get rid of money haha

You won't get 38's in there either without cutting or having super stiff springs. Don't trust 4Wheelparts in that regard. They really don't know much about anything other than Jeeps (at least in my part of town).

For reference, I've managed to get 35's on mine, but had to shift the rear axle back a bit to keep it from rubbing the fender with only a 6" lift. Take a look at some of the pictures around here so you can determine what will really fit. I suspect the lift height and tire choice will depend on what kind of ride quality you can accept and what kind of stuff you want to drive through...mud, rocks, trees... :)
