I've had my 74 Blazer since I was 21 ( I'm 35 now) and it just sits in my driveway. I really let it go and would love to rebuild it, but dont have the time or the cash to do it right.

She has rust in all the usual spots. I listed it on ebay over the summer but everyone thought they were getting a creampuff for $1000.

Do i just junk it :frown1: The left rear fender is loose. The floor is not original etc etc

her in her better days

do what I am doing, I was in love with my 73. Not so much just cause it was that particular blazer but the full vert I loved.

Well now I have an 89 blazer, much better shape and I am going to swap the top onto the 89.

Full vert.

You could even use your parts and swap the older style front clip on

x2 on full vert swap and 73-80 front clip on newer tub/frame.

Trust me on one thing. That blazer is now a part of your life. You know all those story's about people trying to get back the one that got away. You have it. dont give up on things so easily! it may take you a while but with time and patience you can do anything.

im in the process of fixing a 73 top someone put a freekin ugly sunroof in. and have a mint condition 76 body that im transplanting it to. you have a diamond in the rough there. don't sell it for coal. it will haunt you for the rest of your days.

is there a link to a thread where you're doing this? thanks for the replies both of you.

I now know what I must do. :D

Thanks to all the replies. Great members here.:thumb:

I know i dont have many posts here but ive lurked and absorbed more information from this site than i ever imagined possible. i was under another user name that i dident like much so i made this new one and need to upgrade it to paid member.

Ck5 is by far one of the most informative and best sites on the net. people will seriously go out in there pjs in the snow to take pictures of something or get a measurement for you, its rather crazy. The Brotherhood of the K5 and all other vehicles related.

I was on another car forum like that. It's nice to have sense of brotherhood with people who have the same passion you do.

Bergen County. Around 20 minutes from the GWB

Hmmm I'm not too far from you. I am going through the same thing with my truck, except mine is a 91 and its got the rust plague. After having been on the site for a while, every one is definitely here to help you and guide you along the way. With all of the collective knowledge over here, its hard to have a problem with one of these trucks and not get an answer for it.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do with it, but maybe post some pics of the truck in the current state so we can see what you have to work with!

That thing looked sweet!!! Besides the body issues, how is the rest of the truck? You've owned it a long time, you can't get rid of it now! It's the perfect midlife crisis vehicle. Convertible for the trips to beach, 4x4 for the trips to the mountains!!! Parts are cheap and plentiful, and I know nj insurance is expensive, but it should still be cheap to insure as a second/pleasure vehicle. Maybe you could get some pics of the rust damage/issues for guys to check out. The only issue I see with doing the body swap and grafting the full vert gear is finding a suitable rust free tub to work with.

Fixed it for you. :haha:

But they are my kind of crazy!!:waytogo:

Thats about what I am going to be dealing with with my Blazer. For me, its going to be a learning experience as I go along. I'm in the market for a welder and some other things for body work, and once that happens I am going to get all the replacement panels I need and go to town. Its not an insurmountable mountain, you just have to figure out where your resources are going to be put to use for the most efficiency.

Pffft!--thats just surface rust, compared to some of the trucks I welded back together!......

Buy a MIG welder, some spools of wire, get some metal, and start patching!...

I know all too well how it sucks to have a decent GM 4x4 sitting in your yard RUSTING,when it was pretty rust free when you got it...I bought a '85 K10 Suburban in November of '09,and it has yet to be registered, and all it needs is the tranny fixed, its got the scourge 700R4 ,and supposedle it loses reverse after a 10+ mile ride and wont shift into OD...now its rockers are rusty under the doors and I could poke my fingers thru them, when I got it it was rock solid..:(..rust never sleeps, and wont wait for your bank account to recover,unfortunately..

I'm gonna assume there's more rust, there usually is. Even with that, it's not that bad. I would have that in my garage for a resto in a heartbeat. It may take years but that's where it would be. Too bad I don't have any money right now, I'd drive down there for it.

Speaking of which, there is an 85 K10 short box fleetside down the street from me with 39k original miles. Just sitting there, has been for years. Need to stop in and talk to that man again, see if he's ready to part with it yet....
