Well this must just not be my month.

For the first time in quite a while, I had to hitch a ride to school.

The F-250, I just am uncomfortable driving it with the steering wheel going all over like it does, inch and a half movement in every direction, up, down, left, right.

The Blazer just plain would not start, getting fuel, almost new distributor, BRAND new plugs, and it ran great yesterday.
This truck usually doesn't need any pumping at all, you get in, turn the key, off you go, but I smelled gas just while cranking it over. I didn't really have time to look any deeper than that, then, later today, I just checked the antifreeze, and there is brown sludge in it? what is that? It can't be good.

Rust? head gasket letting oil in? the overflow is caked with this shat, but it is still wet.

basically, Got gas, got spark, got air, aint got vroom.

Sounds like head gasket. The coolant and oil will mix making a light colored coffee sludge. May not have compression if it won't start and its blown. How's the oil look. The brown sludge could be stop leak that finally fell apart too. In ha case it's running around inside the engine and will clog up othe things too. Do a compression test and see if it has enough to run and go from there.

Does the wheel its self move or does the column move? If its the column, then you can probably just tighten the mounting bolts.

If its the wheel, its probably still pretty safe, its just the bearings in the column. But, I agree that its worrisome.

As for the Blazer, the brown sludge might be Bar's Leak stopleak. Smelling gas makes me wonder if it flooding.

I've got a car that apparently has significant amounts of rust inside the coolant passages, because after a while the coolant turns brown. Usually at this point I'm approaching the service life of the coolant anyway, so it's no big deal. So if you haven't checked the coolant in a long time, it may be that. On the other hand, if you just topped it off last week and it was nice and green and now all of a sudden it's brown, that's something else entirely.

Well everbody, Yesterday I went out to mess with the Blazer, and decided to try and start it for the hell of it, and low and behold it starts, no fuss.
I let it run for the better part of an hour, and then I shut it off, which it didn't like. Key is off, and there are still clunks and vrooms and hisses, then after about 4 or 5 seconds of it's new life as a diesel, it shut off.

This morning I went out and it started up just fine, couldn't find anything wrong, so I took it to school, but after I back into my spot, and put it in park, it jumps up to about 1350 RPM, And I figured it would pull it's little diesel stunt again, for being shut off at higher RPM's, and it did, but not for very long. I check the throttle cable, and it was a little stiff, but nothing terrible, I PB blast it and turn the idle down a hare, It is down around 900 now, but I was getting to be a bit late so I had to go.

Fast Forward from 8:15 to somewhere around noon, And it is lunch, I go out there and it starts up just fine, and goes to burger king fine, and comes back fine.

Fast forward again to 3:30, I go home and it does fine, then does about 4 hours of explorifacation on the 287 acres of woods my Aunt had and I didn't know about, less than a mile from my house. (basically 4 hours of mud, rocks, trees, creeks, and fields)

I bring it home, and again, no problems, What happened?

On the F-250, what is happening is the steering wheel itself, above the tilt, can move about and inch and a half all around. And last Thursday, starting pinching wires, random unintentional honking, and I ended up pulling the fuse for the cruise, just out of fear, I didn't trust it.

Also, on that same truck, the cab light directly over the passenger seat's base is pulling away from the roof, I was wondering if it would hurt anything if I sprayed some silicone in there, or is there a gasket type thing from the factory? the truck is a 94.

it will diesel when the idle is to high sounds like you have a vacuum leak, also check to see if you distributor hold down is holding the dizzy in place.

Well, that is the thing, I had it set to idle at around 850, and it did for quite a while without problems, but for some reason the other day, like I said, it was idling it 1350-1400 RPM. Now the throttle has got stuck before, the little plastic guide on the cable got stuck inside of itself, so I took it off, and it has been fine since. So the only thing I could figure was the idle somehow got higher, So I turned it down more, to where it was idling around 900. And today it will not start at all again.

On an unrelated note, I went to the VERY BIG junkyard about 20 miles away, and all I can say is HOLY CRAP, atleast 200 cars and trucks,
atleast 100 combines, 16 road tractors, over 20 school buses, atleast 40 medium duty trucks, (grain trucks, soda trucks)

I spent the better part of 6 hours just wandering around with 3 friends of mine. I found 4 K5s too, 2 Blazers and 2 Jimmys, one of which had a 6.2, which I want to get. There was a 91 or 2, that was rusty as hell, but had a black top with sliding windows.

I want it.

check for Compression, Fuel, and Spark. With diesels if air gets into the system it will give you trouble starting. I doubt its compression get a fuel gauge from autozone and a inline spark tester from harbor freight or advanced auto.

Griff, you're just a bit north of where I am...that JY sounds like fun! Any good tailgates off those K5s?

Once the weather gets nicer I think all of us around here need to get together for a meet!

Yeah, this junkyard is in Brighton, MAW salvage.

Two were good, until my friend insisted on breaking the back window on the 91, the 6.2 I think was ok.

I think we should sometime, I live in Fieldon, around Jerseyville, north of Alton.

Also, to put prices in perspective, they only wanted $35 for a 76-92 K5 top.

Just sayin

That's a food price. Last one I bout got was 50. My buddy wanted the slider windows out of It. I had to get one thrown away once that was broke and they wanted 20 to scrap it. Lol
