I'm pretty much over this Cs130 ****....

I have tried everything I can think of to make it work.

I have a volt gauge, so I ran a 194 bulb socket in line with the brown wire to the L on the plug. I did confirm this is 12v, with key OFF bulb does NOT light. Key in run, bulb lights. If the truck is running the bulb goes off.

The plug I have also has an S wire, which I ran to a keyed 12v source. According to the wiring diagram of the truck I stole the connector from this is where it went.

The stud wire goes directly to the starter post where the pos cable is. There-fore straight to battery.

In theory it should work correct? NO...The gauge reads 13v at idle, bring it up to 2K stays still. Hmm...whats with that? So I go to the truck, the alternator is making a soft suttle hum? whine noise? It is also hot to the touch.

So, I get the Voltmeter, on DC I have 17 volts on the post:eek1:. So I remove the light bulb, the whine goes away. and now the volts drop to 15, then start to bounce from 13 to 15.

So I start over, Bulb back in socket, S terminal wire to nothing, same thing. Remove the bulb and it stops whining.

Then I jump the S terminal to the stud, same as before.

Anybody have any suggestions? I am ungodly frustrated....Have not drove this truck in 2 months, and broke the motor in yesterday....Me thinks it's time to drive it.:D

when i converted from cs style older all i did was swap plug ends. i have gauge also. no problems even. i even converted later to a cs-144 200 amp upgrade unit. still no problems. '

i say take a break and give it a rest and come back with a fresh mine. you must be overlooking somthing.

What I first did was just swap plug ends, and hook it up.

This meant I had three wires into the alternator, needless to say that alternator stopped working.

I actually read this thread three times today.....

I guess is it normal for the alternator to make a slight whine? I can't remember if my SI did or not?

Problem solved.:D

I only used a switched to L, and have been driving for 3 weeks, no issue. None of my diagrams say anything about using anything other than L or I, so i dont know where your getting s from?

ooop...I'm a dipsh*t...haha

I have a wire in the "L" terminal and the "F" terminal.

First picture is the back of the alternator, second is of connector.

No, i stopped messing with it, it's dark and my neighboors are real douches....

I mean I was stupid for saying the wrong terminal.

I guess it may be correct? Having the 12v source on the L terminal, and the stud wire?

If you just do L and the stud wire it should work fine.

So I just went for a drive...I guess it's working. The guage slowly worked up. Started my 4 mile drive started a 13, worked its way up to alittle past it.

I would run the charge wire direct to battery not to the starter first. It's just a shorter path to get where you need to go.

I have been running my buggy with only ign. hot to the L terminal for 5 years without issue. My local alt. guy said to do this after I had all kinds of random issues like the alt. getting 12v all the time and running my battery down to loosing the alt. during a hard roll over.

Since switching over to only the L terminal ign. hot no problems.

That was another thing I was going to mention. Going to the Batt is shorter, and less of a hassle when working on things... Esp the starter:crazy:

I wired my alternator up wrong the first time, and it also made that humming noise / got hot / didn't work. Re-check your terminals!

How did you re-wire it correctly?

I used our sh*tty batt tester at work today, which also has a starter and charing system test. All it could tell me was that there was a "problem" :D

With NO loads at idle it only put out 13.5 volts, and with loads, 13.07:eek1:

I don't think it's wired correct.

I can't remember exactly what I did wrong (was like 2 years ago now), but I believe that I had the wire with the resistor / bulb on it one post over from the correct one.

Unless you have alot of electronics, low/weak battery, or really weak alternator, i cant see the voltage changing that much.
