My 3,000 mile TH 400 just took a [censored] in my tow rig. I swore that if I had to pull it out again, to the trash pile it's going.

I sure hope I get to go to badlands this weekend after all of this. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

I'm sure a good 'ole 2wd SM465 isn't that hard to come by. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Everything I own that I'm keeping is a manual (with 1 exception), and if it was an automatic when I got it, it's a manual now.

Auto's are the 'debbil'...

Sorry to hear it dude. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif Kinda surprising for a TH400 to pack it in that quickly though. Who built it and why haven't you taken it back to them yet?

Some guy locally built it...I have taken it back to him a few times. This time I'm sure a hard part blew up inside of it. It still has reverse, no forward gears (or it creeps) and it's making a lot of noise/vibration. I haven't ever seen an auto fail like this. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

I've seen them with no forward/still having reverse but I've never felt vibration like this before.

As to why I haven't taken it back to him, I'm not taking it back to him or anyone......it's either coming out or the whole truck is getting scrapped.

I call them slipoamtics. I have one and hate the dam thing. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif I have a sm 465 I'm getting ready to put in. /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

Sounds more like the guy building them has no idea what he is doing to me.

TH400 is about the toughest auto you can find. I have abused a few in my career, and am surprised what they can take.

Sounds like its time to Upgrade to a 700R4.

Dang it!!!! I was scrolling down this thread thinking that. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Everyone makes a big deal to junk a 700 for a 400. I had a 400 fail in my C30 on me, I'm not really impressed with them myself. I love autos, I have a th700R4 in my K5 and a 47RE in my dodge and both work great. My work pickup is a '98 C30 dually with an NV4500 and I get tired of shifting in town.

wow 3000 miles on a th400, sounds like someone doesn't know what they are doing.

Should we just go ahead and break this down to the "Sticks suck, Autos Rule" "Autos suck, Sticks rule" posts?

Thats my opinion

Sounds like a bad build, coolers not cleaned out good. I would have to say 3000 miles and boom equals something wrong besides it't an auto.
