I hate gm engineers...

On a '66 the transmission crossmember goes under the bellhousing with the tail of the tranny hanging in the air. If it's a 4x4 the divorced tcase has it's own removable crossmember.

Here you can remove the transmission and service it without affecting the motor since it will still be fully supported by the motor mounts and bellhousing.

No i wasnt aware of this fact nor have i had the time or money to go buy the manuel for it. Thanks for the helpfull advice, ppreciate it ;)

If you want to go to an SM465 you will need to remove the crossmember to run the newer bellhousing.

I was always a fan of the old 420's but if it is not staying in gear properly the 465 is a very good transmission. I was not aware of the 420 having a gear problem like the early 465's did but I will admit that I dont know too many people who own them.

Im going to try to keep the 420 in there, if i cant then ill look for a car 4 speed to put in it, then ill burn the tires off it.
