I hate to ask - what do you think The Blazer is worth?

:popcorn:No, by all means, please continue.

For the record I'm not anti-old Vehicle, American Vehicle, GM vehicle (althought not a big fan of the current Government Motors), pushrod V8, or anything like that. I just finally saw the writing on the wall and decided it was time to grow up and move on (for me). I'm never going to be the guy that welds in repair panels, rebuilds engines, sets ring gear, and learns to paint in his garage.

With that said it's just not sensible or viable for me to continue on sinking money into it.

yea they are crap, that is why a new Titan has a 350 chevrolet in it that is kin to my 67 350 camaro :pimp:. Guess changing the tag to 5.6 fooled you too.
Oh and my 85 Iroc had a TPI in it 27 years ago.
My 6.2 86 Blazer has 335000 miles on it and runs like new. I'd like to see one of these wizbang wonders you get misty eyed over in a couple of decades:doah:the other day I saw a 10 or so year old Honda and the front fenders were crumbling from the sun or ozone or whatever.

I'm not anti GM I'm anti turds. I think the new stuff is pretty damn good stuff. I just like things that seem like someone put some engineering effort into them. In the 90's IMO the consumer was beeing bent over backwards by GM. What they are producing now I think you're getting good value for your money.

You double posted.

Uhm...prove that the Nissan 5.6L is in any way GM 350 based.

You'll never convince me that GM torsion bar IFS is in any way superior to solid axles. Even the new coil sprung IFS is kinda "meh".

30 to 40 grand for something your lucky to get 10 yrs out of... great value there...

Not a fan of Nissan. Don't know what Nissan has inside them.

Although the Nissan skyline GTR is pretty bad ass 1k hp easily out of a 6 cylinder. Pretty amazing IMO.

Had a 94 accord I sold a year ago with 288k miles on it. Other then the rear main seal leak it still ran excellent. Drove that car forever and all I ever did was change the oil, tires, tune-up general maintenance stuff. Still got 30mpg when I sold it. I think any brand car can have its share of reliabilty issue here. Which isn't what we were really discussing.

You think the new GM trucks are only good for 10 years? I'd be very surprised if that were true. I dont see any reason they wouldn't last just as long as any other engine.

Personally I think the engine will last...maybe even the transmission...

It's the rest of the truck I doubt.

what goods the engine when the rest of the plasticy interior, piss thin sheetmetal vehicle falls apart? disposable....

Think it depens on what you intend to use it for. For offroading I would agree.

Lasting more than 30k, lasting under heavy use, keeping an alignment on roads that aren't butter smooth, not riding like crap, uhm...

Ryoken, that gives the rest of us swap material!

The interior of my accord still looked nice. My vinyl dash of my blazer is all cracked and busted up. Door handles on the blazer are falling apart. That strap they installed to yank the door shut ripped out long ago.

Time will tell I guess. Personally I think the interiors in the GM cars are 10 times better. Those plastics dont crack and fade like they used to.

other then the heavy use I think IFS can do what you stated. For offroading I dont think much beats a solid axle. Other than that nothing wrong with IFS IMO. Its probably why they are used because of the majority of 4x4's are just mall cruisers.

GM torsion bar IFS has a poor track record for doing any of that.

10% new space age plastic is good, 90% new space age plastic is cr@p..

your too young to understand, all of society has become that in the last 20 yrs... vehicles included.. I'll take the stainless steel, made with quality 50's toaster over the all plastic, throw away in a yr, assembled by a 9 yr old vietnamese girl toaster sold at Wallyworld any day...

Lol not sure how young you think I am?
Not in my 20's or early 30's but thanks for calling me young :)

I'll give you that stuff has become throw away. My range Rover transmission is a $10k part which is one of the reasons I bought the blazer to tow my boat. It's considered sealed for life and non servicable. The dealer wont even change out the $21/quart fancy smancy lifetime oil. What a crock of poo. I changed it myself. But the cost to "service" it, if someone was technically capable would probably be in the $10k price range which is nuts.

People also don't want to do squat anymore. How many people reach for their check book instead of trying to learn how to do something new? I'll help just about anyone for free as long as they're willing to roll up their sleaves and learn to do something for themselves. But I wont do the work for them while they sit back and watch. Most of my friends wont take me up on that offer they would rather write a check or charge it on their credit card.

Prices have also fallen. If you look at machine shop costs you can buy parts new for what it would take to have it machined a good percentage of the time. The product manufacturers have innovated and found ways to capture those remaining dollars. The machine shop guys have failed to innovate and find ways to add value to their customers. I wont pay someone just because they want to be paid. The guy selling the new parts is their competition why they haven't figured this out is beyond me. I think people just like to do the same thing day in and day out without learning something new.

I'll also agree I don't think we should be sending everything overseas. No way our labor force can compete with a 3rd world economy. But for some reason the free market believes it should be able to do whatever it wants and money will trickle down. Well companies are getting richer and not much is trickling down. So much for the trickle down theory.

ok will get off my soap box now :)

I can tell ya the body on the new trucks suck, my 2000 GMC 1500 has a body in worse shape than my 1982 GMC k25. The 00 GMC needs both rocker panels, cab corners, and bedsides; I love the motor and style of the truck but thats about it.

I didn't buy an old Blazer because I wanted something new...I bought it because it was old.
I never had any intention of it being my DD....I'll buy something newer for that when I get this thing finished :eek1:

Some things you can never explain and will never be able to be understood...for example, exactly how loud Ted Nugent was live in 1977...nobody has ever been that loud even to this day...my ears are still ringing...my head twisted up like a dish rag being rung out every time he hit a note....you can't explain that unless you felt it...
