I hate when Sh%^ happens when workin on the truck

It doesn't. The old style brake controllers were tied into a brake line, then based on how much brake line pressure there was, it varied how much power it fed to the electric brakes on the trailer.

The only brake controller options now is a pendulum system that varies the braking power based on inertia and a timed delay version which waits, then applies a pre-set amount of braking power.

I personally feel that the timed delay controllers should be made illegal. They work well for towing until you get into an emergency situation where you need to make a panic stop. It will not assist your braking for the set time delay, and then does not apply full braking power like the old hydraulic and newer pendulum critters do.

O.k. now I am really confused. Why would towing breaks need a residual presser fitting?

LOL, sorry. Meant that if -- which is likely, come to think -- the thing is an adapter for a brake controller, there's no reason to put it back on, unless you're actually USING said controller.

Make more sense now?

oh, that's right, i remember messing with the little pendulum on my dads van... just forgot i guess. So the fitting on the brake line was more or less for a pressure sensor then?

I remember my dad's highboy had the old style pressure system for the trailer brake. It had a steel brake line that ran into the cab to the back of the controller. The new pendulum style should be the only thing on the market, time delays are a dangerous option under any circumstance.
