I have Rattle Can Paint Job Questions...

looks real good.... :waytogo:

we where talking rusto enamel, not interlux brightsides... I'm a marine guy, I have gallons of 333 (slow reducer) where I work and do many roll/tip jobs on the boats with brightsides with good results.. certainly not the most durable of finishes (and soft for a damn long time), but it's a substantially more economical approach than a catalyzed resin...

I also run flattening agent in all the black Imron on my K5...... just a word of warning to all... can you use one manny's product with another within the same type paint? usually not an issue, contrary to what they would have you believe... but crossing products over from enamels to uro's to lacquer is/can/will be a lot more treacherous... sometimes it works, sometimes it'll turn into curdled milk... ;)

Some of the $50 Paintjob guys have used 333 with Rustolem as well.

I had the Rustoleum flow out nicely as long as it was hot out...just left the can out in the sun while I was spraying it--you could put the can in a pot of hot water too,if its not above 70 degrees out...the Penetrol might help some, but I think you'll get some brush marks or roller laps no matter what you do...but they wont be readily noticeable from a few feet away, and a few months later you can buff them out...

I worked at an auto parts & body shop supply store back in the 80's and 90's when I brush painted my vehicles, and more than one body man who saw them remarked "that came out DAM good considering how you did it--and what paint you used!"...of course that was long after I painted them, and had buffed the crap out of the paint to get rid of the brush and roller marks..

in 1992 i painted my truck with 20 cans of flat black... after a bit of oxidation the paint would smear off onto your hand or whatever.. it was a pain in the a$$..

this round I just wanted to stop the surface rust and get a blue truck..

tractor supply store..

sacrilege i know....
Ford Blue on a Chevy... :haha:

but whata ya think?

oh less than $50 with the hardner.. now I may paint it again.. i did the spray cans (they sell same color) last on the inner door and fenders and that messed me up as it is a slight different color since it doesnt have the hardener...

I sanded the surface rust and primered truck again...

Going to try this!

well i dont want to spend a bunch of money and it would look better than rust

Crappy pic here I know. I used Rusto spraybombs for the first 2 coats. Went with the cheaper option and Herculined the lower body. That was 3 years ago during the winter under a halfazz tarp tent with a K1 torpedo heater. Then foam rolled straight Rusto from the can during warmer weather. Never hit it with sandpaper afterwards. I got the idea to do a fade from white thru gray to a better trimmed black AND from glossy to textured Herc. After alot of reading I found Herculiner and marine deck gloss have the same base. I may just lose the fade idea but the white is going to be redone with the deck paint and I'm definitely getting rid of the cartoonish overdone wheel well effect:doah:And yeah I have NO 4wd and I let a homeowner talk me into trying to climb his mountain driveway with a glaze on it :angry1:

That looks pretty good...if my comes out that good I'd be happy. :waytogo:

love the snorkel too!

I did mine with the rustoleum flat camo khaki then dusted it with flat clear looked alright the cLear made it easier to clean off. Mud would just stick to the flat paint. I did it over a crappy clear coat. And after several years and washing mud off with a pressure washer it started to flake. I'm am currently repainting with krylon gloss khaki and loving it so far. I have done just one rear quarter and a door so far. I sanded off all the old rustoleum and all the bad clear and fixed a few dents and scratches. I sprayed that side yesterday with 3 cans . I wet sanded it today with 2000 and for chits and giggles I hit it with my buffer and wow looks as good as any maco paint job lol. I was going to flat clear it but might go shiny k5 for a while.
