Took the day off today and decided to head to the salvage yard just to see what was there. I was looking for an eaton open rear with 4.56's so I can work on a hybrid axle. I could use an extra set of axles for the 4.10's in my rig now. So anyway, I find like six complete axles most of them out of trucks and two in wrecked trucks. I find the 4.56 axle that I'm looking for and ask the guy at the counter how much. He doesn't even know what one is :haha:and then proceeds to tell me it will be a couple hundred bucks! I tell the guy that's a bunch of BS and that most people are GIVING away eatons, especially open ones. Then he tells me 150.00 if I pull it.....the kicker is the axle is not even in a truck it's laying on the ground about 30 yards from the gate! I told the guy I didn't need it that bad and I'd rather pick up a 14ff for 50 bucks somewhere! That axle will probably be laying around for another ten years at that price.

It's called supply and demand, he has what you need/want so you're at his mercy if you really want that axle. I know how you feel though, i'm sure they didn't even pay for that axle anyways so anything they make is pure profit for them.

Thats what happening now...there are no cheap "$50.00" parts anymore.

Especially a heavy Eaton rear.

Both our salvage yards crushed all their vehicles and closed the doors.

Nothing was ever cheap but now i don't even have a place to drop off my scrap vehicles.

I stopped in at the local yard the other day and asked how much for a 14bff. They told me $750.00. I laughed and then headed for the car.

I had a Yard down here tell me $1300. "Is it new?"
"Nope. It's under that 'ol van out back"
"You're smokin' sumthin' aren't ya'?"
Confused look.
"Buh buy"

I went to the wreckers last year looking for a front 60, he told me $2000! I said wah?? He said, i sold three of em for that last year. I said, good luck selling three of em this year for that much. I can buy a whole K30 for 2500.

My local yard takes vehicles in and shreds them the same day with a huge track hoe with thumb jaws, and piles them up to go in the crusher.

sure but it costs $$$. wanna let me have that driveshaft for free? haha dons auto salvage 6051 tuscarawas rd. its on the border or beaver and ohioville. i think the zip code is 15009. the last time i grabbed a rearend from there she only charged me $175 and that was awhile back, so with inflation im guessing $200 give or take

Update....Sorry guys I lied. I said I'd rather go somewhere else and pick up a 14ff for 50 bucks. Today I picked up a matching set 14ff / 3/4 ton 44 with 4.56's out of a 74 K20 for 100 bucks:D I guess there is no such thing as 50 dollar parts anymore!

some people have all the luck. what are you going to tell us next, the d44 has flat tops and crossover steering? hahaha

wow, my local wrecking yard charges 100 bucks an axle no matter what size. d60 or 14bff

Local yard wanted $650 FOR A 1/2TON d44. The cheapest I found was in Utah, 250 miles away, for $300. Of course as soon as I got back from Utah someone on Craig's list had it for $50.

well what really sucks is that there was a junkyard by me that had about 20 pickups with 14bolt ff... he told me $35 each.. that was a WHILE ago... well time went by and I thought id go pick some up and sell them for a bit more.... well I went back and all are gone.. he said that steel was so much that he got $800 for each one stripped, rotten and beaten up.....

so there goes sooooo many older trucks..... so many parts going.....going .... gone and never to be seen again....
