I'm looking to get a engine built for my truck so i have everything ready to go by spring cause I'm doing a **** load work on it over the winter on it.Does anybody know of a place that builds good engines.I'm looking for a place in or around new york.

Consider your local GM dealer. Especially for smallblocks, they have a wide range, from stock replacement to high performance. It does pay to shop around; I found the closest dealer wanted like $150-200 more for the same part number than one fifteen miles away. For that kinda money, I drove the extra. :)

Even with the cost of truck shipment you may find a better deal from Summit or Jegs, who sell all kinds of crate engines, or one of the popular online dealers like Scoggins Dickey @ http://sdparts.com/

Where in NY are you? Guy near me built my 454 in my 'bu, does everything tho. Very good work and very good prices too.

I wanted to get the engine close to home (albany) just in case there was a problem but I'm really thinking I might go with these guys www.unitedracingengines.com and get the 383 with 409 horsepower.comes with 3year warranty.

Yikes $6k for a small block!!! For that kind of money I'd like into an LS engine...

What are you looking to build, stroker, 350? You could buy components, and assemble it yourself. I`d watch out for some of the GM crate motors, have heard a few bad stories, Hencho in Mexico. I picked up a fresh 95 350 from a kid that had it all done at a local shop, for $500, still wrapped. I then picked up a used set of Vortecs for $50. I would figure out what you want,or tell us what you want to be of more help, specs, budget.

crate motor with warrenty . :thumb:

or that power level ls swap with cam and headers with pcm reflash will get over 400 hp on a 5.3 alone. then fuel mileage and efi .

I have about 3 grand into my 454 build. That includes buying the engine, all the parts for rebuild and machine work. In ways I wish I'd gone with a 6 liter, but right now I don't know very much about them. A junkyard here has a crapload of them, but going in a car the accessories stuff is different than a truck, so would have to buy all that crap. If I were to spend 6k on a motor, that is what I would do. I believe LSXswaps.com has a complete kit for less than that....

I don't want my truck to be a two year project with all the other stuff .holidays are a very busy season for me and I can work overtime for two months and pay for the engine and I won't have to build it.and for a brand new engine even the block is new for 6 grand is not that bad.I think it not that bad of a deal.this ain't some ****ty gm motor with 190 hp

you look at prices for gm crate long blocks ?

i just looked up a few here for ya .

290 hp = http://sdparts.com/details/gm-performance-parts/19244450
330 hp = http://sdparts.com/details/gm-performance-parts/19210007-0
turn key 350 hp = http://sdparts.com/details/gm-performance-parts/19210008
zz4 = http://sdparts.com/details/scoggin-dickey-parts-center/24502609kit
425 hp / 454 = http://sdparts.com/details/gm-performance-parts/12568774

you can get a good crate motor new for well under 6k .

and ls swap is easy just read threw some of our build threads. i got a 90k mile 5.3 with all parts from doner to run motor all for around 1200 delivered from local junk yard. and it was from south of the rust belt vehicle so clean motor. 4-5 hrs time to modify harnness ( super easy ) and then motor mount plates . few other things and its ready to fire.

but each to his own. we will help you any way we can .

jegs has alot of create motors or word of mouth in your area. guys that race cars or what ever always know a good machine shop

even the block is new for 6 grand

Remember one thing. All the pros prefer used blocks. Of course, they call them "seasoned", but that is what they like.

A new cast iron block, has stresses in it from the casting and initial machining. After a few thousand heating and cooling cycles, plus the forces on it from running, it has lost most of that stress, and has changed dimensionally in tiny ways.

Re-machining it will add small amounts of stress, but not much. Not nearly as much as it had new.

Of course, you run the rise of getting a bad block with a crack somewhere, but that is what the warranty is for.

Plus, a certain percentage of all the blocks come out of the casting process with flaws.
Most of those are found during the first inspections, but a few get by, so new does not mean perfect.

Remember, the key here is, you are buying a rebuilt engine, not a used one. Used is what you buy out of the junkyard.
Rebuilt quality is more dependent on the skill and care taken by the rebuilder, than the parts he used.

As long as he uses name brand, quality parts.
