I need to get a winch for summer crawl...im not gonna have the money to buy a warn or ramsey...i hate to go milemarker but i may have to...anyone know a decent eletric winch that will last me a lil while on the cheap...it will only be used very seldom...

There are enough cheap ones popping up out there. Don't know how good or long they would last. I'm kind of old school, you get what you pay for.

x2

but if you have to check harbor freight, cummins, or northern tool. they usually have 4-6k winches for $3-400

Why not use a hi lift till you can afford a good one?

I have done this. nothing amazes people more then unsticking yourself with a hi-lift. at first they get you a cock eyed look while you are setting it up, then they are floored when a couple of strokes later you are moving again.

winches are for mudders and guys who have no imagination. But If I find a deal on one I will be a guy with no imagination.:wink1:

I found a local guy to me selling no name 10k winches for $300. Would probably make a good trailer winch. but any winch is better then none.

the t-max and MM look to be fro,m the same manufacturere with different labelling. Me and both of my neighbors have MMs and a friend has a T-max and the drums, solenoid box, and all other externals look identical. Harbor Freight has a 10Klb Chicago Electric for 399(lot # 91905), a 9Klb for 379(lot # 93752), and an 8Klb for 299(lot # 40764) in their current add. These all look identical to the MM and T-max down to the controller.

you should save your $$ and get a Warn - a cheap winch is going to cost you 1/2 or 1/3 the cost of a good Warn - I would wait and do it right

Exactly. Why pay twice when a Warn can be bought one time?

Need money? Charge it to plastic. You can alway pay for it as you go along. At least you will have the winch right now.

I like the hi-lift idea until you can afford a warn. You'll still be able to get oodles of use out of the hi-lift after you pick up a winch.

just do what I did, have a buddy come accross one priced wrong at the local pep boys... and then talk him into selling it to you for what he paid for it...

warn xd9000i..... $211.09 :D

charging it is a bad idea. for what you are buying, having to interest on it every month is crazy. I would have to use a winch weekly to justify paying interest for it.

I know its a crazy concept, but you do not have to have every accessory to go wheeling. Always go with at least one other truck and a strap is all you will need unless you insist on playing in deep mud or going down really technical trails that require all the toys like winches and body damage.

To many guys spend all their time and money building and never go wheeling. In the 8 years I have owned and wheeled my truck I can count on one hand the times a winch did a better job then a strap and another truck or just a strap and a hi-lift.

How do you use a Hi-Lift that may be a feasable option it looks like you would just put a strap on each side and rachet the lift and it would pull your rig. Do they work well???

Yep a highlift works great for winching, people are always amazed at how they can work in that fashion....
