i need idiots guide to my Suburban :)

I'm running Hankook Dynapro MT's in the 315/75r16 flavor.. love them. quote]

Hankook.....Korean owned....scary.

Good rubber so far, very quiet and smooth riding. I have almost 6k on them already. I've read some bad things about their cheap passenger car tires, but the only complaint I heard about these was balancing and mine balanced after they rotated the tire on the rim.

I scored most of my lift for around $300-$350. Most expensive part was the shocks since I bought new. The only stuff you really should buy new are u-bolts and the nuts for the steering arm.

I do need to upgrade to the SS lines eventually.. using 2wd front lines from an 88-98 c1500 and they are long enough but I'd rather have the SS ones.

This is about the look I am going for too. I know 33s fit without a lift but I was wondering if you can fit 35s with no lift if you do some fender trimming but I cant seem to get a straight answer or pics.....Does anyone know?

Sorry, dont mean to hijack...

oh, i forgot to ask in general...does anyone know what would be the best kind of tires to use in sand?
like anyone thats used some and are really happy with them.

for a good cheap tire, bfg at's work real well in sand and alright in the rocks.the side walls are a lil weak but a good cheap tire anyway.they say a mud terrain tire would dig in more than a all terrain instead of floating on top.you can get a 4 inch lift kit for around 500 - 700 bucks.most will come with shocks and either a dropped pitman arm or raised steering arm.it will be a stiffer rear and fix the saggy butt syndrome that most of our trucks have.any more lift than 4 inches and then you have to change a lot more things as far as driveshafts and steering correction.but you may have to trim the fenders a lil bit if you get to where you are rubbing a lot if you wheel in the rocks a lot.

as far as tires go, i hear the less aggresive the tire the better in the sand, but it wont help you in mud/snow. I have BFG mud terrians and theyre really good, when you air down they are great in soft sand. the are quiet on the road and dont wear badly, and they are awesome in mud, havnt tried snow yet. Get those, they just came out with the km2s

what part of south texas are you in? ive got tons of parts here and am always looking for something.

depending on how nice your front springs are i would bet 33s would fit right in there nicely.

I once had a 1987 Suburban, she had a 350/350 Drivetrain setup. 4" Suspension lift w/ 33" Cooper Discoverer STT's.

That truck was about unstoppable and one of my favorite trucks I've owned. They are tanks and they drive like it, and of course they have there limits, but there aren't many better vehicles out there to build for what you are looking for than a Full Size SUV.

for the superduty application? I have 3 or 4 friends that have been getting used ones from a shop for the last few years and love them. They are easily just as good or better than a rancho 5000 and the name sure cost less.

So OEM replacement ford shocks work in a 4" lift chevy?

thats my baby, you can kinda see the rust on the roof but its mostly just all surface and it mostly just takes up the whole roof. :D
but the beach and mud is what im looking to use it for.

In 1987, they changed the body code for Chevrolet pickups from C/K to R/V in order to differentiate the new IFS Chevrolet pickups from the Blazers, Jimmys, Suburbans, 3/4 and one ton crew cabs, and one ton chassis cabs that carried over the old body style until 1989/1991. So if he has a 1991 R1500 Suburban, he has a half ton, two wheel drive.

That is a V1500, not an R1500. V=4x4, R=2wd

So now with that out of the way, would the lift suggestions on here still help or not?

I think Super Swampers work good in sand, kinda like mini paddles.
But surface area is what you want, and low pressure...like 8#
