My brother in NC has this axle laying around, here is what I know about it:

Rockwell axle, wedge type air brakes, guessing drums to be 15 inches for brakes, axle model number - rs15611nfsf. 4. 780 ratio. Date 30793

so is it worth having, or not a desireable one for offroading????

Well its worth money , but no its not a desirable offroad axle

I see this one's not a top-loader, which I thought was one of the advantages of having crazy big axles, better pinion angle. :dunno:

I wondered why more people didn't use the front loader rockwells, at east on non buggies. Clearance still looks pretty good and you don't have to make it balls high or run a massive wheelbase to clear the tops of the chunks

Ahh just thought about brakes as an issue.. guess you could do pricy wheel discs or try and run discs at the transfer case

anybody know what the numbers codes mean?

I thought him or Norby would know. maybe that "Rockwell" will get their attention.

Thats what your axle is from, 15,000# rated

Dam Gus, thats a nice wake up call right there! She looks like some fun!:waytogo:

So my brother says he has two axles, one is a steering axle, both new in the crate, and he's looking to get rid of em.

well there super tough, but I just can't see using them in a offroad project . there is no Aftermarket support for them like Toploaders or Unimog axles. Like was Mentioned above brakes would be your biggest issue .

That combined with a 7.80 ratio would regulate them to some seriously tall tires our a reverse doubler lol!!

They would be great if say you had a medium duty truck or motorhome you wanted to convert into a EXPO rig

thanks Gus!

I told him I'd put em in the for sale if anybody thinks they can use em.

Wow do those trucks have a top speed of 30 mph or something with those gears. Zim i think u need to make the CC into a monster truck with those axles :D
