My 76 blazer eats starters put them in shim them to where it starts perfect then three strts later is starts grinding and not starting sounds, i replaced srtarter 9 times and 3 flex plates, same result every time but sometimes it will take a day before it happens again. Any suggestions or help would be GRRRREAT!!

Have you checked the depth of engagement to the flywheel ring gear. Try to install for maximum engagement without binding, or bottoming out against the ring gear teeth. Check this engagement every 45* or so to make sure the flywheels are not out of round. Are you buying China flywheels and Starters?

checked depth, and i have tried both aftermaket and oe gm flexplate and starters with same result, also bought the bracket for rear of starter that came in 76 but most people threw away throughout years to support weight of starter but the one i got form GM was too short and angled the starter, about the only thing I have not tried is going to a light weight hi torque small starter, i have even tried the newer metric starter from mid 80's but they are to tight to flexplate, i have put 10 starters and 4 flexplates in less than a month this all happened after i put a gm crate motor in very annoying

Which crate motor? if you got it a a dealer, give them the part # and get a flex and starter for the engine.

did that twice they gave me same starter and flexplate that came with the engine two times, then went aftermarket with same result, I have taken the starter out so many times in a few months that im gonna have to heli coil the thread holes if this keeps up, the guys at Chevy are tsumped they did one flex and strter for me said it perfect i drove it home next morning GRIND-- they brought in their "master tech" from colorado he did same, we put a diff crate motor in just in case it was a thrust problem--same thing put a different turbo 400 in--same problem i do believe my poor truck is CURSED!! :)

My 73' was doing the same thing. Every road trip i despised, hell Id leave the bitch runnning on the trail for hours at a time. I cured my woes with the starter brace that gm put out. It was all I needed.

i bought one of those and it is too short for some reason it angles the starter up and it won't mesh, if it was just made too short and buying another one for $2.49 is gonna fix it i am gonna be well slightly ticked off but i will try another one or straighten this one out a little bit.

my blazer did the same thing as you are describing. after going through three or four starters i pulled the one out of my 79 chevy and the starter was shorter top to bottom and it works just fine now. 1 year later never had another problem.
