I need to make room for 38's

^^good info right there. You may wrinkle the fenders or worse, what happened to me, nearly ruin two front tires when the fenders put several nice cuts into the tires going from the tread into the sidewall area. That was back when I had a 4" lift and 35 X12.5" tires

Well, i realized this morning that cutting the front fender some isn't going to be too big a deal since they both have the only two dents on the body. I might have a good deal for a 2 month old 6 inch full leaf spring lift. That with the front trimmed a little should hopefully solve the problem. Then if i need more room, i'll just add the 1inch BL or the zero rates.

The wide 12" rims will make it harder to fit the tires, mainly because it will put them into the rear of the fenders sooner when turning versus a narrower rim.

On my Blazer I had a 4" lift with minor fender trimming that fully cleared 35x12.50's on 15x10 rims (off-road and no swaybar). I then installed a set of 13/38-16 Swampers (on the short side and skinny) on 10" wide rims and couldn't even turn on flat ground without them rubbing.

Personally, I would go with a zero-rate/EZ inch in the front with the axle moved forward 1-1.5"....this will give you more tire clearance than the 6" springs because of how it move the tires forward and away from the firewall/rear of fender.

Okay, just got a call about the springs. For $200 i'll be getting a set of Skyjacker 6inch front and rear springs that were used for 2 months before the guy took it back to the shop for a 12inch lift. That's just too good a deal to pass up.

Then i'll have to see which way i go:

1. Zero rates or EZ Inch and move axle foward
I would need to get longer driveshaft because i already had to put a driveshaft spacer when i went from a 10bolt to a d44. I would also have to buy a spacer or new steering arm for the crossover because it will hit the springs. Minor fender trimming.

2. ORD 1 inch Body Lift
I would have to adjust the shifter linkage and the axle would stay in the same position. Even more fender trimming.

I'm a couple hours north of ya in Gainesville. about 4-5" lift. 56" springs up front with zero rates, 56" springs out back with a shackle flip. Had to trim a LOT to get the front to clear the 42's, and since it's a truck body on a blazer frame, I didnt even try to make a stock looking bed.

well, i finaly got around to mounting the 38.5's to get a better idea of where i stand. I can barely get out of my driveway without rubbing fenders. The new 6 inch springs should solve that problem at least on the road.

I hope to have the springs on this Sunday and hopefully order the BL or Zero Rates / EZ Inch next paycheck.

If i go with the spacer (to save money) would i still have a problem with spring/tie-rod contact?

Here are pics with the lift installed and no extra weight in the bed. I'll be ordering a set of zero rates for the front to lift it one inch and move the axle foward 1-1.5 inches. I'll also be trimming the front lip on the front fenders. That should solve all of the rubbing issues when it's done. If i need an extra inch, then i'll throw on a cmall body lift.

That's a nice looking truck.:thumb: But 1/2 ton axles with 38.5s is kinda pushing your luck isn't it?
Also, it does look to me like you're going to have really tight clearance to the tie rod once the zero-rate is in.

I will simply say that it's no d*mn fun at all to get it back to the road after the semifloater breaks an axle. Recently had to do that around here, and he was running 37's. Good luck!:D

Damn I love that stance! That extra inch up front and some trimming would be great. :)

Not feelin the wheels though.....I have a proposition if you would be interested in my set of 15x10 Eagle Alloys. I found a set of new 36x12.50R16 TSLs on Chucks but the surgery has made it a little complicated. (not due to $$)

i just love putting thoose pics up showing that you can wheel on half tons, they wont break as soon as you get on a trail like some people seem to think around here...

I think the 1/2 tons will be fine. We have guys around here running 40's all day with 1/2 tons It's all in the way you drive. With a light foot and realistic expectations, 1/2 tons should last. These axles should also have upgrades inners, but i haven't verified that yet. I figure that it won't make a difference. If they break, then i know at that point. Plus with the OX in the front, i can run open until needed. Also, all we've got here is mud, so the worst thing for us is hitting a burried root or rock at high speed.

I had planned on buying a black set of rims, but these have grwon on me. I like that deep dish look. Whats wrong with those 36's?

I'm up in Jax in the car so unfortunately I cant pick them up on the way home. He said he will meet me somewhere but I dont know when I can drive again. Also I have 15" rims now so I wouldnt be able to use them again anyway. Good excuse to find a 14ff. ;)

Well, the thing is just that you never know when they'll break. I know guys who have had them break virtually as soon as they hit the trail, but my buddy Carl severely punished his before the back one broke a shaft. Some of the guys were amazed how long his lasted, because theirs had broken far easier than they ever would have imagined. I wheeled a '72 K10 pretty hard back in college, but on much smaller tires, and only smoked axle bearings. I run a K20 now and won't put a locker in the front unless I upgrade to a 60, but I run a lot different terrain here than you guys do. That can make all the difference in the world.:D
