I scored too! '82 k3500

Get a sharpie, mark one spline. That is spline zero. Count ten, mark the tenth spline, count ten, mark till you go all the way around. The "zero" spline become the final spline. That is your spline count. I usually counts in two with smaller marks that way if I make a mistake, it is easily spotted.

When I worked nights, I had to double check the first article off the gear cutter. It get real easy to get lost counting 153 teeth. If you mess up, you have to start over.

Thanks for the tip, I did mark my starting point but it was on the ground, getting dark and I was about worn out so I decided to count them tomorrow. Couldn't imagine having to count 153 teeth!

Doing some research on this 454, turns out it is a gen V, possibly a gen VI. But can't find any specs re: hp and torque. Still have to get the numbers off the heads then I can decide f.i. or carb.

According to this link-

It's a Gen V or if it has the fuel pump boss, Gen VI

Great score on the truck.

Thank you, found that info as well. It does have the fuel pump boss and the external oil cooler provision. I need to get the #'s off the heads...this might even be a 454 HO.

Turns out it is not a HO, oh well. The inside is pretty clean, taking to the shop to get tanked so I can paint it. Also going to get the "California cam" replaced with something a little lumpier and different heads.

Well, broke out the industrial strength, acid based de-greaser and the pressure washer today......................have to love the "corrosion inhibiting characteristics" of the diesel engines, everything was coated with at least a 1/4" of grease/ oil. Found some factory markings underneath all of it.
