paid $1000 to this guy at work for what was supposed to be a hi pinion Dana 60. i didnt think anything of it, handed over the cash and went over to pick it up. i get over there today, and drag it up on the trailer when i noiced something wasnt quite right...

looks like a low pinion axle to me, and the diff is on the passenger side rather than the drivers side like Ford axles are. i cant seem to find any spring perches on it either. :dunno:

oh well, its got big brakes on it anyways. :waytogo:

so i think i got hosed on this deal, but hopefully it will bolt into my truck without a whole lot of problems. it'll definitely be better than the 3/4 ton Chevy 44 i was planning on running.

Gonna need some full shot pics of the axle to help you. Take some of the front and back side of the axle and post them up.

in the fisrt pic it looks like you just have it upside down, get some better pics up, is it a straight tierod?

After some further looking at this pic i'm pretty sure it is a Hi Pinion axle. Look at the second pic and you can see that the axle is upside down (brake line) pointing down and also the stabilizer is in the way of where a passenger side pumpkin would be.

i will have to agree with him, it does look like a highpinion, i have seen chevy and ford 60's next to each other and i would say that is a hp

gee thanks guys, now i know that you really think im an idiot. :haha: both brakes are rusted up, so it was pretty hard for my buddy and i to wrestle it onto the trailer. that's where it was when we finally got it in far enough to close the gate, so that's where we strapped it.

thats another way to tell, is a HP 60 tierod is like that from the factory to clear the cover, when i saw phils hp 60 i thought the tierod was bent but relized that it was normal

If you need calipers i have a set that worked when i pulled them. I only pulled them to put rebuilts on since i rebuilt everything else. Make me an offer if you need them.

id say its a ford going by the dual piston calipers on it. looks different than a dodge or chevy.

hey beater, you going to have it retubed for a passenger side diff or go with a ford transfercase?

i think he is using this in a newer truck where they have drivers side drop already

Definately a HP Ford D60 there Jeremy...

Either you must have been real tired looking at it or you're just messin with everyone here.

your drunk...:haha: :haha:

i'm very well aware of what i have. i drooled over the truck that this particular axle was under from the time i was 12 until i was about 15. at that point the body was so far gone, even the 38" Hawgs and the 460 couldnt make it look good.

and the tie rod isnt just "bent", its mangled.

awwww

he's doing a sas! people around here are swaping the old drive train and all into their trucks when they go sas, i don't understand why, when it's seems so much easier to swing that ford front under it and get a drive shaft made. thats what i plan on doing as soon as my new 2wd Lt2 trailblazer ss:bow: arrives!! i ordered it about 3 weeks ago should be here in 2 more weeks, then i can retire my tahoe from its dd chores. and really "blaze" the streets, i just wonder how long it will be until i need my 1st set of new rear tires!!hehehehe christmas coming about a month early this year.

i've been hunting for a ford front d60. i guess i need to start doing a little home work on year models and such to find out widths and everything else involved in such a swap, but going with the ford front it seem it should be pretty straight forward.
