Alright, get this.
I have a big party this weekend up in the mtn.s of Colorado this weekend so I thought I would put a couple empty trash cans outside for the empty beers. No biggie.....
It's 11:50 and I was about to go to bed when I hear a bang outside. Thinking nothing of it, I went over and turned the outside light on and DAM!!!
shocked.gif
There was a back bear outside the door within 3 ft. of me! He stood up in front of me and was taller than I was (I'm 6'-1") I nearly pissed my pants as he steared at me. He came right up to the door and was checking it out inside Hummm looks good. I shut off the inside lights, went upstairs, grabed a couple of bottle rockets and launched them off the deck and I think he is gone........
Dam, I have elk, deer and all kinds of critters running around here but in two years, I never saw a bear, and 2-3 ft' away?
Now I'm going to have trouble sleeping. I don't mean to be a wimp but what the hell could I do, no gun except a BB gun. Dooh! Guess I'm going out soon to get one. I should have been a hunter (just not hunt the great white buffalo - Ted).
PS - For the guys coming to the party, enter at your own risk!

sorry i just cant help it i know they are very scary especially if you dont have a gun. i have been very close to them just not that close (and i dont want to be) and they do demand respect and they have mine lol dont put any food out side and make lots of noise also right be fore the party fire off a gun several times like maybe 10 times just not all at once space them out like maybe a few minutes apart and make sure you tell everyone at the party so they dont wander off into the woods and become bear food lol are you going to barbecue at the party if you do be vary careful as that will draw them in very fast

Is that the movie where the door breaks down the door and the guy is under it and the bear jumps on the door? That is sooo funny! Maybe it's a female bear and she wanted to come..... but got mad and thought she'd teach ya a lesson!
smile.gif
Sorry I could resist... I'd love to have come except I can't due to a death in the family... otherwise I'd consider it I could be a guy.... oh well....

Bullshit bears don't kill people! If that bear keeps hanging around and having to be scared off it will eventually need to be relocated or put down. There was a bear up in a fire camp that kept coming into the cook fly and the cook would give it a shot with bear spray and it would run off. A couple of hours later and it would be back. Spray it again. Come back. Spray it again. The next time that it came back it closed its eyes and opened its mouth, apparently it didn't like the spray in its eyes but liked the taste. To make a long story short...bear finally had to be put down as it started chasing people around the camp... .270 mag took care of that real quick.

i heard colorado is having a problem with the bears for the last couple years. seems they stopped the hunting season for them and now they have a population problem. hmmm, smart thinkin, huh? last summer my grandparents had one in the tree of their back yard. they live right in town in glenwood springs.

Got things covered for the weekend. My buddy is going to lend me his 44 mag. Like I said, I'm not a hunter and I like having all the animals around here, just maybe not that close!
We will all be careful this weekend and at least I'll have some back up fire power. It was a trip looking that bear straight in the eyes but kinda cool too. If anyone coming to the party has some fireworks, bring them. Hopefully a few rounds now and then will keep him away. I'm from Detroit orig. and I still like these animals more than the ones I grew up around. At least bears don't ask you for cash or steal your K5......

Get a nice .308 calibre rifle.. or a 30/30... like they used to use in the wilderness back in the 1800's...
Hit a bear with a BB gun.. you'll just make him mad.. !!!

Fireworks? Aren't you in an extreme fire danger zone? The mountains west of Colorado Springs have had the extreme fire danger signs posted for a while now. We got some rain the other day, but it doesn't take long for the sun and wind to dry everything out again.

I live at the edge of Pike National Forest, so we have lots of wildlife roaming around here too. I've only seen 2 bears in 3 years, about 1/2 mile from my house. It was a momma with a cub, so I kept my distance! Some of my neighbors have had bears in the trash and one lady got up one morning to find a bear playing on the deck in the hot tub.

It's a great day to be alive...

I was camping with my oldest kid about 5 years ago in the middle of bear country. We were careful not to leave stuff laying out and were sure to wash our hands and not wipe our hands on our clothes...... I had jacked up the blazer and rested the frame on top of the ice chests. (no bears gonna get that, I thought) @ am my truck is rocking back and forth and to and fro.... damned bear had ipulled both ice chests out from under the blazer. If I wasnt so amazed I'd have run his over!

My brother and I were camping in Yosimite in February and the people in the spot next to us got their passenger side door ripped off by a bear. The bears didn't really have time to get in the car 'cause the owner made a whole bunch of noise and sprayed it with bear spray. The park rangers came to look and see what the bear was after, it was a wrapper from McDonald's! Needless to say I was scared $h!tless!
