I think I ruined my first shiny truck

I was putting a nice pre-summer coat of wax on my dd '04 Silverado, and got some wax on the black plastic trim on the bumper...and the door handle and mirror. Normally I try to avoid getting the plastic with the wax because it somehow makes if faded looking, but this brand didn't seem to do that (at least at first) so I was applying liberally. Bottom line, I am left with a faded looking section of the bumper trim, driver side mirror, and driver door handle on the only shiny truck I have ever owned. Anyone know of a good way to get the finish back?

I tried washing several times, tried armor-all, and a bunch of random concoctions from the garage. Still just the dulled grayish finish.

Try WD-40. Works great on plastics and makes them SHINY!! Also good to use on the plastics under the hood.

From what they advertise the new Turtle Wax Ice is not supposed to damage the plastic like what you used, so maybe for next time use that. To help repair what you've got going on you might look into this stuff http://www.gatorbackcoatings.com/home.htm
We used a ton of this stuff on the Avalanche body cladding to get rid of the light colored, faded look they would get after about 6-9 months. This stuff was really amazing and probably saved GM millions instead of replacing all the body panels on those trucks.

Get a small stiff bristled tooth brush or similar type brush. Use that to get the wax out of the tiny crevaces then use that back to black stuff. Should take care of it. Maybe Ryoken will pop in with some good tips

Peanut butter. Sounds weird/fake/wrong, but it works. I've done it and used it to remove wax on those very bumper covers and door handles.

The wax shouldn't be damaging any thing, it's just that the plastic is probably textured and the "fading" is just from wax getting into all of the little grooves and it is hard to wipe out. I've always just put a little Armor-All on a towel and put a little elbow grease into it to rub the wax off.

On my buddy's Jeep he just eventually removed the fender flares and spray painted them all black again. Looks great.

Try some vinegar in a spray bottle. Had an idiot wax a truck once without getting the hard water spots off first. I used vinegar and it cut right through the wax and removed the water spots.

Worked like a charm! I've washed it a couple times since I put it on and it's still shiny.
