I want some bolt on power for my TBI. HELP!

Headers help out on the tbi trucks as they generally don't flow much with the stock manifolds. The more air you can run through your engine the more it can give you in power. When I did my blazer I ran true duals through hedman headers with 2.5" pipe. Noticed a big difference daily driving it mostly above 2000rpm.

My truck hauls ass with sm465, 3.73s, 36in TSLs:

355 TBI
Crane "RV" cam
Long Tube Headers, true duals
TBI spacer, injector spacer, fresh injectors

I dont know if somethings been tweaked internally engine wise other than the cam.

For $1500 I would recommend:

High volume fuel pump and regulator.
Port stock TBI, TBI spacer, Injector spacer
A mild, computer cam that comes in at 1000rpms
Long tube headers and true duals
Edelbrock RPM TBI manifold
If its an auto get a torque converter, like 2500rpm stall.
TBIchips.com chip

There is no reason to carb it or turbo it

I wasn't planning on cam'ing it or upgrading the intake right now but i'd definitely like to address the fuel delivery.

It's a 350/SM465/3.73/33's that will eventually become 4.10/35's (although that'll probably keep things about the same). Motor is a little tired, just needs a little more pep so I think I'll be fine with headers, exhaust and a few cfmtech goodies.

Just changing out the sh!tty autolite plugs and slapping on a new msd cap/rotor/coil woke it up quite a bit.:eek1:

Just wondering if you guys would still run the tbi spacer on the edelbrock tbi intake? I know that the new intake is a bit taller in design so when i put mine back together i didn't reuse my old tbi spacer kinda though that it was gonna hurt my tv cable and what not. what do you think?

sometimes the tbi spacers like to have spacers under the tv bracket too.. corrects the geometry when you raise the TBI... some people have gotten away without them (most companies just sell ya the spacer with dollars in their eyes without regards to it working properly),.

and I'm sure every one will chime in with how theirs works fine...but i've also heard plenty complain of tv issues without the bracket spacers...

as long as the tv cable function is smooth... spacer on a tad higher intake (tho i don't remember reading that, and i'm planning on running one)? then i'd DEFINITELY want spacers under the bracket...

Thanks Ryoken thats kinda what I was thinkin, I remember when i first installed the tbi spacer on the stock intake and was asking about spacers needed for the bracket but now with the edelbrock intake it looks like its about an inch taller on the tbi deck so i kept my spacer off for now but i guess id like to try it down the road after all i did pay for it :doah: what do you think could be used to block up the bracket some?

hmmm, didn't realize the E intake was taller, interesting..

the spacers i got from CFM tech for the 1" spacer where basically just 3/8 I.D tube sections, 1" tall (like you might find on an alternator bolt) and longer bolts... i'm betting that new intake alone would appreciate the spacers for cable geometry... let alone with the spacer on top.. at that point i'd probably wanna eyeball where the bracket wanted to be, and either find some of the same tubes a bit longer than the ones i have.... or i'd fab a new bracket if that appeared to be too hokey... i doubt you'd need/want to raise the bracket a full 2"s tho... just the 1"er's might be enough...

tbichips.com.... tons of good info... tbi heads arnt worth the powder to blow them to hell, find a set of vortec heads.

96vortec heads w/AC delco R44LTS spark plugs for vortec heads, not the TBI ones
GM performance intake, made by Edelbrock, vortec heads to TBI
Made my regulator adjustable here, http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?p=298293#post298293
cranked it to max and am running an AC delco EP381 fuel pump that puts out 50-60gph @ 65-75psi
I also smoothed out the intake side of the TBI unit and am running a 14"x4"
open filter.
Seems to run pretty good, doesn't starve for fuel on hill climbs like it did with just the heads. I am not running any chip, my exhaust is 3" both into one, with no cat. One O2 sensor up close, where it came from the factory. If you go with headers and do any crawling, make sure and wrap them up good, or you will probably be smoking starters. Just my two cents worth.

When i installed my tb spacer i just unbolted my tb and slid it under, works fine.

All the things said here are great bolt on mods, exhaust and tbi are key, bump up the fuel psi with a afpr, inline pump and maybe even cop injectors.

has anyone tried these? would it make just about any long tube headers smog legal, sorry for the jack its just hard to find smog legal long tubes cheap.

Take $1000 to the junkyard and pick up an LS engine. Then use $500 for a reprogram and the nickel and dime stuff for the swap.
