Never hurt a ring and pinion but we have broken a few axles. My wife built her buggy over a period of a couple of years and it made it's maiden voyage in '92 since that time she has only broken about half a dozen axles.

Factory 30spline shafts? Never broke a knuckle? Interesting.. I'm always worried about that.

35 spline Spicer shafts inner and outer. I broke a knuckle on my buggy but it was at the tie rod attachment hole not at the top.

I had to leave my buggy for a week and come back to make the repairs to get it out of the woods. I cut a piece of metal and put a tapered hole in it and then we used a Ready Welder to attach it to the knuckle. It worked fine but I replaced the knuckle once I got home. Here is a pic of the knuckle after the repair.

I really enjoy this Suburban. Lots of elbow room and plenty of storage space. I keep all my camping gear in it all the time.

Funny I have been watching this thread from it's inception and I thought I already posted mine.
It's still stock, and was sold but after a few months of waiting the deal fell thru, so it's mine again, now I need to get it running and then modify it slightly, probably some trimming and 35" tires, it's already 3/4 ton but might put a 14bff instead of the sf.
It's 6.2 TD 4.10 gears, 700R4 /208

Here is my '85 Burb. It has 33" tires on stock suspension (tires rub). I bought it just for running the beach for fishing, so it has some rust on it. It's ugly and gets terrible mileage but I still love it. :D
