i was reading about hummer h3

The H1 is a bigger turd. Slow, crappy ac, hell of a nightmare to park, crappy as all hell gas mileage.

I would love to have the ALFA H1 with the duramax as it solves the power issue..but last I looked they are holding strong with prices over 100,000, compared to 25-60k for a 6.5 version.

yea I was thinkin more of the one with the dmax also

well new powewagons have selectable lockers front and rear and they have a solid axle so id call them more capable as well

i saw the power wagon on tv when it 1st came out couple years ago..4.10's/selectable lockers, & who can argue w/ a truck that comes stock w/a winch! not sure if they still do but originally they did!

i started to check into 1, in bare bones when dodge started the whole lifetime warranty thing, for a dd for the rest of my life taking care of it & beat on my gm's

Could you get the cummins. I think when it first came out you could only get a hemi

I've been watching the H1 prices come way down and got pretty serious a few months ago so I spent time on the Hummer forums and besides lack of power, everyone complains the steering components only last a few thousand miles. Also, if you look on ebay, they all seem to have had a motor rebuild at 40-60k miles regardless of turbo, non-turbo, gas, alpha, etc. Really turned me off as I thought they were supposed to be bulletproof.

can we stop bashing this vehicle & talk about its transfer case! man, ya'll sound worse than the people on jerry springer when some1 says hummer!

Eh, i love the 5.3, i assume that would be fun. I was just excited to drive that bitch, and it just turned out to be the biggest pile... It wouldnt go over 80! Jesus.

I have a problem with this quote. I would like to stay far away from someone who looks at a 4x4 SUV and his or her biggest complaint is its top speed is 80mph. If you want to go fast buy a vehicle designed to go fast. Kinda like saying I drove a camaro the other day but Jesus! it really sucked in the mud.

Im not defending the hummer, or trying to rag on a guy. But COME ON look at the vehicle for what it is. NO 4x4 SUV going to perform like a sports car.

On to the 4:1 transfer case.

You do know you can buy low gear sets for lots of differnt transfer cases?

it uses a NP241 alum housing chain drive slip yoke rear VSS speedo output.........doesnt sound like a viable upgrade to me, with the exception of IFS trucks and SUVs but even then your just compounding the tourque on an already weak IFS.

.....Uh, aren't you the guy who drove 140MPH in a Nissan Pathfinder?

:haha:

Uh NO! I dont think i have even even drove a nissan pathfinder. the only thing I have personally drove to that speed is my grand am and my friends 81 corvette. I have drove a 4x4 over 80 a time or 2 but only during passing, and only for a short time. Tires for trucks and SUVs are only rated for around 80-90 MPH, no many people realise that.

A quick google search shows the H3 4:1 t-case as a Borg Warner 4494.

The 4:1 t-case in Jeep Rubicons is a 241 with a fixed rear output however.

Interesting comment on the milage. I consistantly got 15-18 mpg out of our HMMWVs at work with NA 6.2s or 6.5s and a TH400. I am sure the newer ones with a 6.5T and a 4L80E would do the same if not a little better.

I bet the gasser H1s only 8-10 mpg though. That is one heavy pig.

This maybe a little off topic, but the H3 is a pig. I drove one once with an I5, and it honestly wouldnt go over 80. To stay at 80, it was constanly switch from 3rd to 4th gear.
popping a curb, while loading the engine (by using the power steering) would almost stall the motor.
terrible truck imo

What would your 1SG or CSM say if they found out you were trying to drive over 80 mph on a public roadway?

Driving deaths are so commonplace in the Army(Military in general really) that we have a lighted display at each entrance to Ft Hood showing how many days since the last Soldier was killed in a vehicular wreck.

Moral of the story is: Slow down Soldier!

no, greg, that was me, the OP, that drove my pathy 140 mph when i got a call my wifey went to the hospital, and i believe it was you who took my info of mph to rpm's to a spreadsheet and realized the little pathy would actually go that fast, but you have to drop out of overdrive to do it. it stops about 120 in OD, drop out into D and it will peg the 140 mph speedo! but its a 2wd

hmm, I got to drive a ex-military version and my account of the mpg is that they sucked. No doors, stripped etc, they said it hits around 12, with how fast it drank 2 tanks of fuel I would agree. Not to say it could have needed some maintenance though as it smoked quite a bit too.

I snapped some pics while at SEMA of this bad boy though.. 1200 hp "iirc", runs a 12 second quarter mile..D-max on some type of steroids.
