I went to this years Baja 1k race and just sharing the experience.

Well that kind of thing is pretty big ever here, i started watching videos, going to races, seeing trucks built until eventually i started with my own..it all started with a pair of light mounted on the stock front bumper, then some 5150 bilsteins then i got "sick" per say.

Im pretty sure theres some race teams in Texas, check race-dezert.com and dezertrangers.com theres lots of info there.

Looks like you had a lot of fun. I'd like to run that someday. The truck is in winter mode right now. Not sure what I'd need to be able to run in the hot desert.

It's not that hot in November (in fact you can freeze your arse off at night near inland Baja).

Getting down there ain't tough - just stay in a group of friends/Americans the whole time. You need Mexican car insurance which you can buy on our side of the border. Do NOT take guns OR ammo. Download the race course GPS files and get a GPS unit and whatever paper maps you can find. Take US cash enough for fuel, lodging (if not camping), food (unless you bring all your own), and bribes.

Some people do, but I personally would not take my wife or kid down there.

It's definitely a uniquely awesome experience.

BIG no no in Mexico. Want to learn the hospitalities of the Mexican gulags? Take a gun to Mexico. Even ammo will get you in serious trouble.

Handgun ammo alone will get you a prison sentence (not jail - prison) - even if there's no handgun with it.

Ironic (considering the state of things) eh?

Is that why they have to smuggle weapons in? Because there aren't any available in country? That just blows my mind away.

It's a ****hole 3rd world country that can't protect it's citizens but created it's own problems yet tries to export and blame them on their neighbors. Enough said.
